Normandy Farms Family Campground was our next stop. Located near Boston, the wooded property has been in the same family since the 1760’s and is now also home to a Christmas tree farm.
We took a drive to the JFK Presidential Library and Museum on the U. Mass-Boston campus. We were very impressed with the exhibits, photos, and audio/visual presentations of the President and First Lady and their families and would highly recommend a visit.
Another day we rode the MBTA (train/subway) into Boston. It was a cloudy, chilly day but we enjoyed the harbor cruise and the Beantown Trolley tour where our driver provided lots of Boston trivia. We walked through Beacon Hill, an area with very expensive homes; and we checked out the Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market areas.
After getting off the train, we drove up to Waltham, where Alan lived as a young boy. We found his old house (courtesy of Google maps) and he reminisced with his dad and brother on the phone. We took a few photos and will send them to his dad.
Palmyra, Maine served as our next waypoint, in a rural area off I-95. We missed the turnoff
into our campground and had to drive down a dirt road until we could make a U-turn. Good thing there was no traffic, because we blocked an intersection while we turned around. The campground was part of a golf course, and we did enjoy a round one day.
We visited Camden, a touristy town on the coast, where we strolled the main street, enjoyed the waterfront, and ate seafood for lunch on a picture-perfect day. Another day, we drove to Moosehead Lake to see if we could spot some--you guessed it--moose! Well, our efforts paid off, as we spied a young female and a young male right along the roadway.
Tomorrow we leave for an overnight stop in New Brunswick, then on to Prince Edward Island.
