What a day that I hope to not relive any time soon! Last night was not good. I was really concerned about how today would work out so didn’t sleep well. Then the wine I’d bought was way too sweet and fizzy, YUCK! It was a Virginia wine but not a good one so I really couldn’t drink much. I had 4 appointments set up for today but 1st had to drive from Fredericksburg to Baltimore about a 2 hour drive. I left late so knew that although I’d be within the range I gave, I’d be later than I wanted. Fortunately, roads were not busy so I flew on my way and got to my first appointment on time. By afternoon I’d checked both of the bank accounts and my advance was not there. I ... read more

This morning started off with a breakfast of granola bars and milk as the hotel did not have complimentary breakfast. The full size refrigerator came in handy to keep a gallon of milk that we bought yesterday. After breakfast, we walked to our next hotel (just a few blocks away) and dropped off our luggage. The hotel hopping was necessary because of the various deals that popped up over the last month--sometimes you can only find certain days on sale. Our second stay is at the Mount Vernon Hotel near Baltimore's Washington Memorial. This was an exceptional deal as I was able to take advantage of Expedia's Best Price Guarantee . They had the hotel for $104.30/night, and it was $104.29 at Priceline. Because of this 1 cent difference, Expedia gave me a $50 voucher towards ... read more

These are pictures from the fall when parents came to town. We went to Baltimore for the day and toured the inner harbor. I think it is a very underrated area. We had lunch at Phillips Seafood. I had not had Maryland style crabs since I was a kid. Not sure if I am really a fan. We then walked along the harbor and took a boat tour. We could see the Domino Sugar sign. Very neat. We then went to a section of the harbor called Fells Point. It had streets with brown stones and cobble stone streets. There were neat little places to eat and cute little shops. It looked like a little New York right on the Ocean. I definitely want to go back and spend more time there. ... read more

Summer 2009 - Life in the City We arrived in Baltimore and took a slip at the Anchorage Marina a few days before the big 4th of July weekend. This is a great marina for live aboard cruisers, since it has a West Marine a block away, a Safeway supermarket across the street and at least 50 bars & restaurants within walking distance. As usual we were assigned docking space on their outer floating pier due to our width of 22’. This provided us with a good view of all of the vessel traffic entering Baltimore harbor. We saw schooners, skipjacks bulk sugar ships and all sizes of yachts and pleasure crafts go by. While cruising north I saw an ad for a “Captain Wanted” to drive the water taxis in Baltimore harbor. I applied for ... read more

It's been a while Travelblog! Since I last updated this I've done so much. I've settled in properly here at RPI and just about started my research properly; I've gotten myself a part time job on campus (as not to break immigration law); I've been to a drive in movie; and been to Baltimore for a weekend as well as spending quite a bit of time round at Sigma Phi Epsilon. So where to start? I went to the activity fair one day last week to have a look at all the different clubs and teams here at RPI, and there's a lot of them - presumably as a result of Troy being so small. I put my name down for Volleyball and Curling for some reason, neither of which I really meant to sign up ... read more

Located a short distance from each other, the Maritime Museum in Baltimore's Inner Harbor and the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad Museum make for a fantastic day-trip into Baltimore. With family in town, we ventured north for the day, first visiting the B&O Railroad Museum, which is the birthplace of American Railroading and a massive museum of over 40 acres with nearly 200 trains on display. Then we headed over to Baltimore's Inner Harbor to explore the Maritime Museum, which really means we boarded and explored three ships and a submarine berthed at the Inner Harbor. First there was the USS Constellation, the last all-sail warship built by the US Navy, then the Lightship Chesapeake, which served in the US Lighthouse Service, the USCGC (U.S. Coast Guard Cutter) Taney, the last surviving warship still afloat from ... read more

This weekend we travelled to Baltimore, Maryland to see Infected Mushroom play at Palma Nightclub. Smitties bought the tickets and booked our room at the Hilton. He was supposed to come, but he had to work in Canada so he gave Toby the tickets and room as a birthday present. The show was great and the hotel room was fantastic!... read more

Interrupting your regularly scheduled seriousness for an update that shows how much of a geek I can truly be! And yes, Felix. I went to Otakon. :P What is an "anime convention"? I sure as hell wish I could give you a proper answer for that one. It seems to be a mishmash of different things all combined into three days of amazing, awesome, and complete insanity. The intended purpose is to gather people of a shared interest together so you can bond and meet other people just like yourself. But really, anime conventions have different meanings for different people. For artists, it's a way to sell and show off your art to a larger audience, as well as get your name out into the marketplace. For nerds, dorks, and other such geeks, it's a weekend ... read more

The subject to this entry has nothing to do with the entry itself, I just wanted something a little dramatic as an introduction: Currently listening: Hong Kong by The Gorillaz (for the incredible guzheng) Just listened: Leaves in the River by Sea Wolf Currently reading: Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk Just read: The Road by Cormac McCarthy I am in Columbia, Maryland, outside of Baltimore, lying prone in the front yard of Sam's uncle's house. The time is getting nearer where the trip takes some unique turns: Tim is going to Scotland for a week and a half and I am going to Oregon and Idaho for four weeks—flying out of New York and Boston, respectively. Driving from Indianapolis to Maryland, we stopped in Ohio to visit a friend at The Apostolate for Family Consecration Catholic Familyland. ... read more
