Well it was time to save and publish another few days of blogs so if you have not been following on your own you might want to resume from Day 18 posted a few days ago. Alarm went off at 7.45am and I headed straight to the window and I saw clouds with what appeared to be a resemblance of blue sky as well. Yippee. We did most of the packing last night and we had minimal breakfast supplies in the room to save some time (the delicious OJ we had bought at Newport with a Yoghurt I grabbed from breakfast yesterday). I was a bit freaked out last night when I was unable to upload any photos to my blog as without images it’s just a ramble. But I tried again this morning and all ... read more

I made it down to Massachusetts then realized I missed two of my stops in Maine. Since the states are so small, the furthest point I wanted to reach was only a three hour drive. With much encouragement given to me by friends and family, I decided to go back into Maine and mark everything off of my list. I did that...and MORE! Since this was my second time driving to Maine, I choose Hwy. 1 on the southern half of the state. The Hwy. runs parallel with Interstate 95, but intertwines with multiple adorable little coastal towns with many places to stop and take in the sights. First on my list of things I missed was the Wiggly Bridge in York, ME. I posted a video of me crossing the bridge on Facebook, so if ... read more

Wednesday 28th : We decided to ride to Jackman Maine which is very close to the Canadian border, to get to the end of the old BDR route. Leaving Eustis/Stratton, we headed North on what was the original last section of the NEBDR. We got onto a gravel road around 20 miles out of town which once again was a fun ride with a backdrop of stunning fall colours. A whole tourist industry is built around this seasonal vista. The Motelier has told us that their busy season is just starting. Apparently, tourists come from far and wide to witness and photograph this amazing natural phenomenon...we could see why as we rode through the forest. The road meandered through the forest with expansive views through the valleys to the mountains all cloaked with amazing reds, yellows, ... read more

Tuesday 27th: We left Gorham and were on a nice winding sealed road for 29 miles through the White Mountain forest park. The last 9 miles of this was quite misty, still around 9 or 10 degrees C. Our route took us West off this road still in White Mt forest but now on gravel. Nice flowing fast gravel roads, once again beside a stream with rapids for around 20 miles. Then we had a choice to continue on the main route which Keith & Bryan took, or turn off onto a10 mile "expert" section which Ian & I did. This section started off on quite slippery surface with plenty of puddles, tree roots and the odd patch of soft sand. After negotiating this well for round 5 miles the route popped us out onto the ... read more

We take Amtrak from Boston to Portland, Maine. We arrive at 2:40 PM but our Airbnb will not let us in until 4 PM. We walk to Bunker Brewery dragging our luggage behind us. The brewery is quiet and we find a table outside. We enjoy the beer until it is time to call an Uber to take us to our Airbnb. We rented a one bedroom, one bath unit with a living room and kitchen. After settling in we walk to Whole Foods to buy supplies for breakfast and tonight’s dinner, We made dinner then relaxed and watched television.Mark was able to hook the tv up to our home Dish account and we were able to watch last weeks 60 Minutes. The show was about 9-11. So appropriate since we just visited the 9-11 museum. ... read more

I finally reached the Quoddy Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine. The furthest eastern point of the US. Even that statement gets complicated in this peaceful, quiet, wooded state. Eastport and Lubec battle over who is the most eastern point. While Eastpoint is the furthest "town", Lubec is the furthest "city". Located on the most eastern point of the continental United States, West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is a stunning spot to see the first rays of sun in the country. This iconic red and white stripped pilar is located in Quoddy Head State Park, the original tower was built in 1808 under orders from President Thomas Jefferson. The lighthouse tower that stands today was built in 1858. But wait, I am getting waaay ahead of myself! The drive through Maine to get to this point is well worth ... read more

I spent 4 days and 3 nights in the Acadia National Park. I had never heard of it before but apparently is a very popular large park in this region. My first night was in the Schoodic area. I did a few hikes close to camp but was not overly impressed with this newly developed part of the park. The next morning I had reservations to drive the Cadillac Mountain top. My reservation was for 7:30 a.m. so the sun was up, a low layer of fog laid between the mountains, but the view was wide, far, and blue skies. My next two nights of camp was at Blackwood Campground. Many more driving loops, hiking trails and with that more people. I hiked to Bubble Rock, Jordan Pond, and Otter Creek. Really nice hikes, never more ... read more

After a great breakfast, a lot of shopping, and a goodbye to the Cooley cows, we left Stowe and the Von Trapp Family Lodge. I hope I make it back for a longer visit!! Out goal today was Bar Harbor, Maine. We planned to spend the night and visit Acadia National Park. What I love about traveling is the drive. There’s so much of this country to see and much of it is so beautiful! It’s difficult to take pictures out the car window but occasionally I get a good one. Sometimes I tell “Stop, Stop, STOP!” and Terry stops! I even take pictures through the rainy windows! Today was another day of looking for wildlife…I wanted to see a moose!!! We were also looking for fall colors. We were just a little early for the ... read more

Shelley and I departed Hadley’s Point Camp Grounds yesterday. Taking Highway 3 into Ellsworth for some light shopping and supplies refresh before heading back into Canada. We stopped in at TJ Maxx for a little shopping, then over to the LL Bean Factory Outlet. The Outlet was fantastic; Shelley liked that all the clothing was actually organized into sizing properly - nothing was just shoved together Willy-nilly for her to sort through. Refreshing. I found some more clothing items and we even picked up a little flotation device for Maggie to wear when we are boating or kayaking. Departing here, the directions took us up Highway 3 and had us turning right onto North Street. North Street, as it turns out, is “highway” 179 - a small two lane (one lane each direction) that sloped from ... read more

We woke up this morning and prepared to leave Middleborough for Bar Harbor, Maine. We intend to stop at the Kittery factory outlets, and then make our way to the L.L. Bean factory in Freeport, Maine. Stopping for gas in Wrentham Massachusetts. 35.007 gallons at $4.999 cents a gallon for a total sale of $175 US. Once we reached Kittery outlets, we discovered that they are spread across a great many blocks. We park the RV, and Shelley rested a little bit with Maggie while I went on ahead to check out the Barbour, and Orvis outlet stores. The selection to choose from was ‘okay’, but the sizing availability and pricing made it not as sweet a deal as it used to be a number of years ago. I can remember the relish of delight when ... read more
