Went to two Cajun jam sessions today with my parents. It was like a mini-road trip! My dad played accordion, I played guitar, and my mom danced :) Had lunch at Fezzo's in Scott, LA...had the crawfish pistolette...liked it very much. Had a great time.

DSCN6438Me and my guitar friend. He started playing guitar when he was seventy years old. I followed his hand patterns to catch on to a song...and he let me know when a quick change was coming.
DSCN6440Guitar friend (I didn't get his name...can you believe that?!). The guy on the fiddle is Milton (I think), and he is the leader of this group. When I thanked him as we were leaving, he said, "Music is for everybody...even the birds..." and he flapped his arms in the air like wings :)
DSCN645592-year old fiddle player. The guys on the left are looking at old photographs .
DSCN6459At Vermillionville (Lafayette). The lady with the accordion is Sheryl Cormier...she was just inducted into the Cajun French Music Association Hall of Fame. The guy standing (with the cap) is her husband, and he has a great singing voice...he puts his heart in it. The guy in front on guitar is 84 yrs old today. We played him HB in a Cajun waltz. He lost his wife 5 months ago yesterday..he said this is his "terapy". On the right is an upright bass and a dancing couple.
DSCN6461I love this picture!! ...and check out that wand of light coming in from the left....oh, and we saw a rainbow early this morning...it went entirely over the Mississippi River Bridge :)
