Wow, day 2 was another great day on the 2018 Great American Road Trip. We have had yet another great weather day. Knock on wood, we still have at least 20 more days on the road and don't want to jinx our luck. We departed Knoxville about 9:00am and headed north for Kentucky. See our attached photos. Jackie is in charge of taking a photo of the state line banners and you will enjoy her collection of shots. I'm sure if we were here in the Fall we would be bragging about the color of the leaves. But now, I'm bragging about the color of the leaves...green! The roads in North Tennessee and into Kentucky are fully tree-lined with fresh growth. We passed through the Daniel Boone Natural Forest on I-75 and then North West towards ... read more

The Ark Encounter was amazing! Definitely worth a trip to see. There are so many things to learn about the whole story. Many different kinds of animals, even the kind that we would call dinosaurs ? and so much more. Pictures do not do justice here. It is a must see. ... read more

We arrived at the airport Monday with plenty of time for our 9:15pm flight, so we stopped at the pub for a beer, walked around the shopping area, went to the bathroom, got water for the flight, charged our devices, got another beer, had something to eat, went back to the bathroom, stopped off at the charging area to top off our devices…etc, etc, etc. We even started watching the security folks until they gave us the “stink eye” and then we headed to the bathroom again. Finally, it was ready to board. This would be a short flight to London where we would layover and stay the night at the IBIS hotel. The hotel was small, and fairly inexpensive, but they made it up on the breakfast…$27…ouch! And it was terrible. Our flight didn’t leave ... read more

Rolled into Nashville yesterday afternoon. Walked around the downtown area...if you like loud live country music coming from every direction, bars, and interesting people watching, this place is for you! After a cocktail at The Stage rooftop bar, we jumped back in the Subie and headed to Walmart. Didn't mention before, but Kathy has caught a head cold ? so we picked up some Puffs with Vicks, NyQuil, and eucalyptus/mint Epson salts to hopefully solve the new tent ⛺️ smell issue. Neither one of us like strong smells, but this is something we use to soak in the tub at home and it always makes us and the house smell so good ? We arrived at our campsite, Hillman Ferry, ~5:30pm. The Camp hosts we spoke with on the phone before we arrived were so nice. ... read more

Kathy and I are headed to Spain!!! Yeehaw! We have spent the last month or two finalizing the arrangements. We will visit Barcelona, Zaragoza, Logrono, Santander, Pecos de Europa, Oviedo, Madrid, Seville and Valencia with a final stay in Barcelona before heading home. Of course we have incorporated a hike into our trip in the Picos de Europa National Park. Our hike will start about 4 days into our trip and will be a series of day hike loops with multiple days at each B&B. Total distance will be about 60 miles and total time will be about 6 days. This will be different than our normal hikes because we will stay in one area which will allow us to enjoy the local shops and restaurants for several days. Terrain will cover 10 to 15 km ... read more

Got up at 4.30am and travelled the 35 miles of winding roads to catch the falls at Sunrise. Was the only one there for about 3/4 hr. Just as I was leaving the sun was just hitting the valley with lovely light and I had 2 flat batteries. I also spotted a groundhog. Back on the road and next stop was at The WIld Turkey Distillery in Kentucky. It was a bit cheaper for the tour, and so was the tour. Still enjoyed it and got another tasting at the end of the tour. I think I liked the basic level bourbon than the ones we tested today. From here I went to Staxx BBQ in Frankfort. to try there Ribs. I don't think the Aussie's have anything to worry about if that was there standard ... read more

Sunday morning....Early day as we had to be at airport by 9:00am. And I might be a little excited. Got to Louisville airport with problems. Rob dropped Kelly and Suzy and myself off right on time. Quote of day...Sunday... Rob told me 'Don't pinch pennies'....So excited!! Chicago.... Last time I flew into Chicago was last April 2016 in our way to NYC for a long girls weekend. Who knew how much fun we would have? Who knew how much life would change? Wow!!!! After an uneventful flight to Chicago and a very very good lunch we boarded our flight for Philadelphia. Problem....maintenance saw an issue that was not safety related and said they didn't need to fix just now. 25 minutes later...said they were going to fix and looking for part. Then they said more of ... read more
