The city has imposed a 3% eat in tax on all food that you purchase and eat in the city. In addition there is a $1 per night room tax on motels rooms. The downtown area is well maintained and there ares still some retailers remaining. We never saw one building with graffiti on it. At first sight upon entering the downtown are it might appears that the banks are the predominate businesses. The dollar store recently moved to a new city limit location and--- yes---one of the banks obtained the building so they could expand their office. Thus one less retailer in the small downtown area. It is located a couple of blocks to the west east from downtown. There have been attempts to restore the old building but thus far there has been no success. The building seems to be deteriorating very quickly. Across the street from the old hospital is Fohl's Hall which was constructed decades ago and in still being used on a regular basis not both public and private events. Close by of the Museum for the mining industry. A word of caution. It seems the museum does not have regular hours or even regular days of operation. Check before going.

Just a block off of main street, behind the Marion Cafe is the museum which is located in an old church building. The museum is certainly worth a visit and the day we were there the person on duty was cordial and very helpful. The museum has been closing in the past during the winter. Check before going.
