Finally I get to see Tom's birthplace. Now I know why he was so quiet about it. Definitely middleclass. Beautiful neighborhood, unchanged in 40 years, overlooks the Ohio River. Spent evenings watching High School Football. Tom was nostalgic over his H.S. quarterback days. Says he didn't have the cheerleaders chasing after him. Yeh, right.
Onto Elvis' birthplace in Tupelo, MS. Found someone who grew up poorer than me. Capped the summer off by visiting the Shiloh, Tn and Vicksburg, MS battlefields. The more Civil War history we learn, the curiousor we get. Off to Texas from here! Have reacquainted ourselves with people we've met along the road...Nurse, survivor of Vietnamese prison camps for religious persecution, copyeditor working on the road. Life is still good.
