Wagon Master Sam
He loves Catfish Taking The High Road...Taking The Highway. After our early morning events with "Hi Steppin' Daddy" and "Horatio Hornblower", we were on the road with the wind at our backs and a song in our hearts. Our mini-caravan, with Wagon-Master Sam & Tail-Ender Cory & Navigator Sandy (little), we skimmed along through Missouri with a good by-pass around St.Louis. Cory is so used to my directions that always takes him through the heart of these big cities, he thought he was driving in Beaulah Land. We arrived in Illinois just as the rains came. We pulled into a roadside rest/welcome center and decided this was where we should spend the night. We pooled our leftovers together and made a fine, pot-luck supper. The atmosphere for friendly togetherness could not have been better. We dined in our motor home with our knees locked together....no boarding home reach needed. For non-RVer's: when our rig is closed up (slide outs in), we have a small channel down the center of the RV that you can walk single-file....part of it is "one person sideways" wide. So we sat on the two couches, knees entwined, devouring left-overs and appreciating our friendship and times shared. The rain on Golden Corral
Sharing with Lulu the roof was soothing and musical.....helping to drown out the noise of the truckers' generators around us. The "raindrops keep falling on my head" saga didn't last!! After settling down for the night, Mother Nature took hold. The rain was torrential, the thunder was deafening, the lightening was blinding. There was even hail - and not because the gang was all here! One explosion of thunder shot me straight up in bed and I can sleep through absolutley anything! It was like Sam had shot off all of his cannons at one time. Fortunately, I got up because I noticed a flashing light on our refrigerator, which was not a usual one. Cory got up and found our batteries to be way down. Our back air conditioner had been on (not blowing) but on, so that must have been the draw. So, at 4:00 AM, we are now running our engine and generator for an hour.....and believe me, this sound is not a gentle "hum"- more like a roar of a train engine and rocket ship combined. Morning came quickly and we headed off down the pike in our mini-caravan. Found a Dennys along the route to stop for breakfast.
Our last group-encounter until January. As Juliet said "Parting is such sweet sorrow..." as we said our good-byes and well- wishes. In our melodious voices, Cory and I are now singing like Roy & Dale: HAPPY TRAILS TO YOU....UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN!
