Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today was a beautiful sunny day, so we enjoyed a boat ride on the Chicago River. The Chicago River is a system of rivers and canals with a combined length of 251 km. There are 38 moveable bridges spanning it. We enjoyed viewing all all the exceptional architecture along the river. After our boat ride we wandered through the streets of Chicago making our way back to Millennium Park. Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Today we caught the Big Bus tour near our condo and enjoyed seeing and hearing about Chicago's attractions. So many amazing skyscrapers, especially Willis Tower with its 108 stories. After our tour we hopped off the bus at Portillo's which is famous for its Chicago hot dog and Italian beef sandwich. It was a yummy lunch. From there we walked back to our condo, stopping to pick up some famous Garibaldi Popcorn. In the evening we walked the beach boardwalk and around Navy Pier.... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364No rain this morning so we headed out for breakfast. We enjoyed a walk along the lake and up the Chicago river. We had to pass through some underground tunnels to get to where we were headed. We saw many homeless people sleeping in the underground. We had a very nice breakfast at a place called The Corner Bakery. Then headed off to do a bit of shopping along Wabash Street. From there we headed to Trader Joe's to pick up some dinner for tonight. We then walked back to our condo. After a short rest we we went down to Navy Pier to enjoy a Chicago style hotdog. Not bad! From there we walked along the lakeshore before finally walking home and putting our feet up!Our Indian Food from Trader Joe's was very ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364It was another rainy day here so we took the trolley to Millennium Park. We saw the amazing Cloud Gate, also known as the Chicago Bean. It was rainy so we didn't get the photos we were hoping for. Then we wandered down to the Crown Fountain. The faces on the fountain change about every ten minutes. Very cool!We enjoyed a nice lunch at a place called Potbelly Sandwich Shop before heading to the Chicago Art Institute. Viewing the gallery was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. It is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the United States. The museum is most famous for its collections of Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings which we enjoyed. We liked " A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" by Charles ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Had a good sleep and now ready to explore a bit of Chicago. First we headed out into the rainy day to find some breakfast. Once fed we were off to the shopping area called "The Magnificent Mile". Jim is in search of an iPhone 7 and there is an Apple Store along this street. After waiting for 45 minutes in a line for purchases of iPhone 7's, he had his new toy. We then made our way to a grocery store for a few things before heading home. We lazed around the condo part of the afternoon as it rained. By mid afternoon it had stopped raining so we wandered down to Navy Pier to check out the attractions there. There is a Ferris wheel there that is 200 feet tall. We will ... read more

Chicago to Illinois. We drove through Chicago to our first stop on the route "Joliet", if it sounds familiar. Some of the famous Blues Brothers movie was filmed here. And the Jail still stands there, that's the jail Jake was released from. Joliet has a welcome centre and museum for those who want to discover a little more about Route 66. Basically it is a series of roads which runs across the country from Chicago to Los Angeles. A series of roads that follow a basic route, roads that have upgraded through the years. In some places the old road does not exist and the new freeway is the only road you can travel on. Glen and I traveled the oldest road possible, the road which began the route from 1926 - 1950, when that wasn't ... read more
