The road from Pierce to Wallace is one of the best known sections of the Idaho route. Everyone does it. Access is easy from either end. It is very beautiful, with creeks and forest and old railway lines and mountain villages. North of Pierce I faced the usual mix of gravel and track, ridge and climb, drop and turn, getting closer to the North Fork of the Clearwater and the Dworshak reservoir. The best part was the signs for the bridge over the river -- known as the Grandad bridge -- pointing for Grandad to go here, or there. I instinctively obeyed. As with previous reservoirs, this one seemed over half gone, with multiple sand rings circling the lake from the line of forest down to the water. I normally wouldn't post a short trip like this but it is a truly different experience and I highly recommend it to anyone passing through Idaho on I90. After the wedding experience , we left Ymir on July 4th and crossed into Idaho south of Salmo at Naleway. Crossing into the USA by car is quite an experience these days and probably must ... read more

Hello all. No pics yet. Here I am at a couple who are desert friends of Dad's who have opened their home and hearts to us and they're dialing up slow. SO.... a simple trip-to-date summary. Made it out of Chambana about a day late (after the Taco Bell incident) and headed straight west on I72 and US 36 through IL/MO/KS. US 36 is one straight, easy, great road across MO. Past Hannibal, Flora, MO (Twains Birthplace) and on over the Pony Express, Oregon, California and Mormon Highways (YEP 4fer1!). The van is driving very easy and getting GOOD mileage (~13 average). First two nights I did the tent. One night near Mankato, KS was at THE BUGGIEST and THE LOUDEST campsite ever. And we thought the wildlife was bears and bunnies... NOPE... your favorite country ... read more
