Recent winter storms have dumped a goodly quantity of early snow to jump start the ski season. What better place than Sun Valley, Idaho to begin the ski season. The entire mountain wasn't open but there was enough skiing to thrash ourselves on the first day. Beth was on her first serious pair of boards and it was a perfect day for her to cautiously get a feel for them. They are a whole lotta ski and there was a little bit of soft stuff on top of the groomed. It was a good day for her to let them run a bit and not feel overwhelmed by the skis. This is also a good point to give out a holler to our "tech support team." :-) Edge Performance is a couple of guys (Seth & ... read more

Hello everyone, I've been in Sun Valley about 3 weeks now and it has been wonderful. This is a great resort.Although there has not been an awful lot of natural snow, the conditions have been great. They have made plenty of snow on the trails and groomed it beautifully. The off piste skiing could be better, but I can live quite happily without it.What has been a delightful change from back East(especially this season) has been the weather. Seventy five percent of the days have been sunny and the daytime temperatures have been in the 20s and low 30s.There has only been one day when I have put on all the layers I normally wear at Sugarloaf all winter!I haven't been skiing on flat light days,to spare my back.Instead I have gone to the Y which is a wonderful facility. One ... read more

After 7 weeks, 6,000 miles and 20 states,I finally made it to Sun Valley. After leaving Texas,I headed north thru Oklahoma, then into Kansas, where it got much colder and started to snow.Fortunately not hard enough to be a problem.I had almost run out of propane, and spent one slightly cold nite in a Walmart in Kansas. Then two more long 12 hour days driving, going thru Denver, skirting the Rockies, finally seeing the mountains of Sun Valley in the distance and arriving on a glorious sunny day in Ketchum.I have moved in,bought a pass and tomorrow I am going to start skiing,I have already hooked up with Kerry Noble and her husband Randy, from western Connecticutt and we are planning to go to the Inaugural Ball at the Sun Valley Inn-it should be fun.So now onto 6 weeks of skiing and staying ... read more

It was the revered 'cocktail hour' like 5 pm or so and I'd got back to the fabulous Metropolis Hotel in the middle of what seems to be the druggiest, sleaziest, derro-filled part of town....the action centre, but most of these people are so off their tits on whatever, staggering, sliding, sleeping on the street...too much...anyway, I was having a small Absolut and some pistachios, the pistachios had been given to me, most kindly and thoughtfully, with a wholemeal cookie, by Rebecca, Michael's 'amour de moment' the night before I left Sun Valley, the 15th, my second birthday on the road.,....and thanks to all of you who remembered...both of you!...Ha.....anyway, the first sign was an unopened pistachio and you all know how frustrating that can be, and then I dropped one...omg...a sign indeed..it was time to ... read more

I did want to call this one "obssessive-compulsive, anal-retentive, power-tripping, control freak...ie everything you want in a ship's captain" but things have transpired...as they always do...yes, my beloved bike, my home and heart for 14 months, 75,000 kms, longest, most stable and rewarding relationship of my life (except for a couple of notable others...and you know who you are) Yes "La Cuenta" has ben sold...despite all the forebodings of doom and hard work (always my nemesis) it all turned out to be pretty straightforward.....after the generous insurance pay-out I was able to discount the sale price and one of the Bro's buddies snapped it up...we went to the county office this arvo and it was all done in 10 mins.....if we'd been in California it probably would've taken 6 months...ahh the pleasure of living in Idaho...hohoho... ... read more
