We decided a few weeks ago to take a short road trip to Glacier National Park, after school started and before snow closed the roads. We decided to book our hotel in Whitefish at the lower "no cancellations" rate...and now we are headed for rain...and some snow! Today Bill drove us from home to Sandpoint, Idaho. We took the North Cascades Highway most of the way here. We started out in dry, but cloudy weather, had heavy rain until we passed "Rainy Pass" and then alternated between rain showers and sun for the rest of the day. The countryside was very beautiful for almost all of today's drive! I always travel with the Roadside History and Roadside Geology books in my lap. And then I ask Bill to take endless side trips, and our compromise is ... read more

Stopped to get some food, use the bathroom, and exchange our American currency for Canadian. The teller was funny..."Someone told me that it smells like maple syrup but every time I say that to a Canadian they laugh. I'm not sure if it's a running joke or what." The money is different...it feels like flimsy plastic and is bright & colorful, like Monopoly money. We are currently about 60 miles from the border and I keep finding myself obsessively checking and rechecking my bag for my passport. I know that it will be there but I keep looking anyway. ? I packed food so I wouldn't need to get any on the way...so once everyone else finishes their sandwiches we will once again be underway!... read more

Today I left Washington. The trip to Sandpoint was about 90 miles and was pretty uneventfull. I made the trek in about 8 hours and am still feeling the effects of the passes and the trip to Ione. Tommorow I am going to take an unscheduled rest day, do some laundry and sleep in. I am feeling pretty dead. Sandpoint seems like a great town and the scenery is quite lovely around here. Pictures comming when possible.... read more

Hi Everyone! Yes, it’s true... we are back home, safe and sound. The trip through Canada was so beautiful that… well… let me start from the beginning… In our last Travelogue, we were leaving the US in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan for Thunder Bay in Ontario, Canada. Kathy had always wanted to see Lake Superior from the Canadian side. It was certainly worth the trip. We were both continually stunned by the landscape of mountains, forests, and water, be it the mighty Lake Superior or the many other lakes along the highway. We stayed at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay in a spacious suite (Kathy wanted the puppies to have lots of room to run around.) It was nicer than I had imagined, and VERY clean (our curious puppies tend to find even the smallest ... read more

On the road again... Ok... Kathy and I are just about ready to embark on another road trip... this time to attend Jon (Kathy's youngest brother) and Tracy's wedding in Kalamazoo, Michigan. We're taking our two puppies, "Sabrina" and "Roxy" with us so they won't feel left out. I've put together a "puppy condo" in the back seat area of my truck giving them all of the comforts of home while on the road. Kathy tells me she has mapped out our trip, traveling from Sandpoint, Idaho through Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and finally arriving at Kalamazoo, Michigan. Along the way, she plans to visit as many Coldwater Creek stores as she can (we'll see). After the wedding, we'll head back through Canada (Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta), continuing through Montana, and finally ... read more
