Day 1, Oahu: We spent the first half of the day flying out from Kona to Honolulu, which was actually not that bad. The flight was fairly smooth with calming views of the ocean from the air. Once we arrived to Honolulu, it was off to Waikiki Beach to take in the rays and sights. It is a truly amazing place, packed with thousands of people on the beach and along the local shopping centers. Kona, Day 4 (6/22/09): We had a casual day and rested most of the morning, having to catch up on laundry and do some swimming at the resort pool. We decided early on that we should go on a dinner cruise, having enjoyed them in the past with historical perspectives being offered as part of the trip. Now, when I called and booked this dinner, I was met with the following, "Its Gay Pride night, but no other cruises are on schedule until next Tuesday." Day 2 (Kona): We spend the day traveling to the east side of the island. Waterfalls and rain forests filled the morning with a visit to Akaka Falls State Park. The waterfall is over 400 feet! After the stroll through the waterfall trails (paved with stair rails), we ventured to the World Botannical Gardens. This used to be a sugar cane field, but is now complete with a water fall with three drops, a mile section of rain forest, and a garden of exotic plants from the world over. June 20 What a day! I’m so excited to write about it. I’m putting my favorite picture first…Me and Misty May-Treanor….read on to hear all about it! I woke up early enough to walk down to the farmers market at Kapiolani Community College. It’s about a mile up the road at the base of Diamond Head. Anyways, I had heard that you’ve got to get there early, and since the hours are from 7:30-11:00, I figured getting there at 7:30 is early enough; maybe not. Day Three on the Big Island (6/20/09): Day three was awesome! We spent most of the morning driving down state highway 11, stopping several times on our way to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. We found South Point, the southern most location in the United States. South point is referred to as Ka Lae, and a barren land, covered by dried grass lands, cattle, and an old wind farm that is not really in operation any more. Day 1 (6/18/09): We arrived in Kona at about 1:30 PM (which is about 5:30 PM in Wyoming). We are staying at the Royal Kona Resort, right on the ocean. The room is on the 6th floor with a room facing the ocean! After a nice late lunch, we strolled around the local area, finding a Banyan Tree. Oahu - Hawaii Part I: Arrival Aloha, we are in Hawaii. After leaving the domestic airport we had a little panic attack trying to find my mum ( Anne ) and my sister ( Kelly ) at the international airport. After about half an hour of wandering around, heart rate very elevated we eventually found them in the smoking area…of course!! To be honest they were freaking out just as much as us. June 18-19 Yesterday I didn’t do much…motivation was lacking, but truthfully I was pretty excited about my book. I woke up and took my time in the morning. At 10:45 I walked down to the yoga studio for another hour and a half Power Yoga class with Dorian. Again I was the only one; again he kicked my butt. It is truly the most challenging yoga class I’ve taken. After yoga, I grabbed my Starbucks coffee and headed back up the hill to the house where I remained for the rest of the day. Yesterday was fun because I went swimming at the Waikiki Beach! Yesterday I had a hard time sleeping because it is five hours earlier here then Texas. Since my family didn't have any food ,Christopher, my mom and I went shopping for cereal and milk. Soon we ate some and then explored the beach. Then we went back and had some lunch then we went to check out the beach again, but this time with my dad, who was at our hotel getting ready to go out. June 17 Something woke me extra early and when I glanced at my phone it read 5:45. Ideally, I should have gotten out of bed and gotten an early start to my day, but I feel asleep for another hour. At 6:45 I decided to make today my Pearl Harbor day. I had read that there was a flea market at Aloha Stadium on Wednesdays, so even if I got to Pearl Harbor later than the recommended time, at least I’d have somewhere to go to kill time.
