Aloha from Kauai! We are spending the next few weeks in Hawaii on three Islands- Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island. The first three days were at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Oahu. We spent a beautiful morning at Hanama Bay snorkeling and enjoying the amazing scenery. Our visit to the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbor was both moving and interesting. There were many Japanese visitors at the memorial… which made us wonder what it will be like when we visit Nagasaki, Japan’s ground zero memorial. Sunday we visited the very friendly Living Waters Baptist Church in K [View Full Entry]

Hawaii was fantastic. We didn't really do much, just relaxed. However we did go to Pearl Harbour. It was a eerie sight to see the U.S.S Arizona sitting just under the surface. We also boarded the U.S.S Bowfin, a submarine commissioned on 7th December 1942. Plus we went to the U.S.S Missouri. The significance of that ship, is that it was there, that the Japanese signed the Instrument Of Surrender on 2nd September 1945. That brought and end to the war in the pacific and, ultimately, the war all together. We stood in the very spot where that signing took place. [View Full Entry]

Hey all Sorry but Hawaii has been too nice to spend time inside on the internet. It has been a really great week of family time, beach time, Kayaking, Whale watching, Boogie Boarding and of course eating. I have made it to the beach with Elia (my niece) almost every morning right around sunrise. This morning my parents made it as well. We are staying 1 block from a beautiful beach that is 2 miles long and curves gently to make a nice cove. It is on the Windward (eastern) side of the island so the waves are small but there [View Full Entry]

Shaved Ice

It's been a pretty relaxing couple of days. It usually consists of getting up and walking or riding a crazy bike down to check out pipe and watch if it is big or go home get my board and find a smaller break (usually log cabins). Then you surf until you can no longer surf, relax at home reading or playing with the cats and chooks, eat, drink beer then sleep. All very mentally taxing. I have been into the main town Haliewa which had some shops and food etc. Other than that I've been far too relaxed to do anything [View Full Entry]

I am definitely falling behind in my blogging, but I dont want to skip over Jen and my experiences on the Big Island of Hawaii because it was truly a brilliant time. The Big island is my current favorite out of all the places that I have been so far. I'm still hoping that jen fills in the blanks. So when we arrived on the Big Island, under the heavy influence of jen, we decided to rent a convertible (good call). We drove all over the island so having a convertible was a definite bonus! Lu'au - Jeff had secretly purchased [View Full Entry]

Aaaaa-loha, Well my friends, it has been a long time since I last updated my blog; and a lot has happened. I think that this first update will be for our time in Oahu only. Jen and I left for Hawaii on the 11th of January, spent the night in LA and then arriving in Honolulu, Oahu on the 12th. Upon arriving we were greeted at the gate by a Hawaiian girl who had lei's for both of us (a little surprise I arranged for Jen). The first night we stayed in a hostel in Waikiki, a pretty fun place that [View Full Entry]

Hi all, Well, finally we’ll mention the news from Honolulu - now that the snailmail announcements have gone out and the cat is out of the bag! Dick and I were married in Honolulu last Thursday, Jan. 20 in Judge Reynaldo Graulty’s chambers. We have been planning this for several weeks, just a quiet wedding during our one day in Honolulu that didn’t involve a lot of fuss and bother. The agencies we contacted wanted to set up a flossy wedding complete with digging our toes in the beach sand at sunset with champagne and cake afterwards - exactly what we [View Full Entry]

Hi all, This is our last full day at sea before we dock in Honolulu tomorrow (Thursday). Quiet and restful, except for the sea which was a bit rough, though not as much as yesterday. Nobody is seasick so far as we know, probably because of the stabilizers on the ship. These are big "wings" that stick out on each side of the ship below the water line, that keep it from rolling from side to side. We can feel the ship plowing into big waves but it's just up-and-down with no rolling, which is probably what makes for sea sickness. [View Full Entry]
