Aloha Arriving at Honolulu Airport
Arrived in Honolulu Thursday night after a stopover in Los Angeles. Taxi to Waikiki Beach which is hot, hot, hot - in many ways!!
Friday we took the No 42 bus to Pearl Harbor and took the boat across to where the USS Arizona still lies on the ocean bed. Very sobering and very moving. On Saturday we visited Chinatown in the morning and had some fabulous Dim Sum at Legends Restaurant - although we were too chicken (again) to try the chicken feet. In the afternoon we hiked all the way up to the top of Diamond Head - a crater which overlooks Waikiki Beach. The path (and heights) were scary at some points and the tunnel through the rock at one stage was quite terrifying and claustrophobic: we were commenting that we don't know how Jim's Dad ever managed to go down the pits every day of his working life. But the view from the top was stupendous!! We had a swim in the dark on Waikiki Beach later to ease off the aching muscles.
On Sunday we were up and off early for our flight to Maui where we're staying at The Pioneer Inn in Lahaina.
We much prefer Maui to Honolulu as it is much more laid back and the scenery is beautiful. Yesterday we went swimming at Little Beach near Makena (we only found out later that it's usually a nudist beach!!). Spotted some rather large fish further out in the water - dolphin? sharks? Who knows? We came out of water till they disappeared anyway just to be safe. The surf is really powerful and just tumbles you head over heels - great fun but the sand gets everywhere - if you catch my meaning. In the ears I meant!!
Today we drove the long and winding road to Hana Bay. On the way back we took a detour to visit Nahiku where George Harrison owned a house and were almost run off the road on a sharp bend by a Dude in a red Mustang who was none other than Mick Fleetwood (of Fleetwood Mac fame) who also lives in Nahiku. There's no point in being killed by a rock star just for the infamy you know! The man might be a wizard on the drums but he cannae drive to save himself.
At the risk of hacking everyone off
Pearl HarborThe USS Arizona Memorial where the ship and over 600 of her crew still lie on the ocean bed.
I should report that the weather is in the high 90s but at least it gets a bit cooler in the evenings for a walk along the front.
Having a ball and hope everyone is well
Love,
JandL

Oor HotelQuaint - The Pioneer Inn in Maui. It's over 100 years old you know!
Serious SurfThe waves knock you off your feet and tumble you in to shore....not for the faint hearted
Lahaina by NightWhat Quarter looked like in the old days, says Jim! But here they all go to bed at 10pm

George wrote a song about Hana Bay, wish I could have seen what Nahiku looked like. What a time you guys are having. More power to you. Rock on........and look forward to hearing everything about your adventures.
Typical, just typical; all the way from Lanarkshire to Hawaii for a chinky! I hope that's not taken as racist (note for web police - it's a Scottish colloquialism with warm connotations relating to the providers and purveyors of a distinctive style of food served in rural and urban areas of Scotland) And you used chop sticks! Very impressed. Impressed, but ceertainly not envious (for web police - this is a really big lie) that you are climbing volcanoes, swimming with sharks (well dolphin type sharks), getting your toes all sandy on the beach, eating and drinking in the finest of establishments and bronzing in the sun. I could tell you the weather is great here in Scotland (ok, web police, I give up) although to be really honest we have seen the sun of late - but mainly in your photos from Hawaii. You're not missing much here, Falkirk are till holding up the SPL - we play Hamilton on Saturday and we'll think about you both (might just raid your house while you're not there (Honest web police just joking - we raided it last week). Your whole experience sounds amazing and it is great to feel a part of it through your narratives and pictures. Disappointed that Jim's not giving us some of this in play script form, but there's still a long way to go. You will be interested to know that I've only been to Trongate once since you left and I've not had a decent coffee since! Keep living and loving every minute of your adventure.
Best wishes, Colin

What can I say, you must be getting sick of all that heat and being on top of the world......OKAY, maybe not. Looks amazing but be careful all your splashing doesn't scare away the sharks! Sunshine here is just too much we have reverted to daily siesta's just to cope!!!!! You just don't know what your missing. :-) X
Looks like you are both having a great time wherever you go, and you sure have been around. It's great being able to travel with you. You're getting closer to Sydney and we are looking forward to seeing you. This week our temperatures have reached 31 and it is only the beginning of Spring. I think we are in for a hot summer You should be used to the heat by the time you get here. Keep having fun. Love Jan and Alan
Cheers guys. Hope you and yours are all well. Yes we are having a great time. Will call you as we get closer to Belllambigong!!
