We travel today from Maui to Honolulu (2hr lay-over) to Kaua'i. So we start with shuttles to the airport. Our group is too big to fit in one shuttle trip so we make 2 trips. Luckily the airport is not far away. Our flights from Maui to Honolulu and Honolulu to Kaua'i are uneventful and we pick up our baggage and go outside to wait for our bus.

Now, Susan has already told us that because of the unavailablty of motorcoaches on Kaua'i, and the fact that some areas where we need to go are too small for coaches, we will be using a school bus - Yes, a yellow school bus. When we see the yellow school bus turn the corner, we all cheer and make many jokes about going back to school and being young again.

Then we do our luggage-thing of sorting and loading the luggage into the back of the school bus (through the back door emergency exit, with buzzer sounding). Next stop is to pick up the picnic lunch and load it on to the bus too!

Off we go to the Grove Farm Museum to have our picnic lunch. They have set up a long table with chairs under a huge shade tree for us and we all make ourselves comfortable and begin to eat our sandwiches. The weather is warm to hot and we are glad for the beautiful flowering Chinese Almiond tree shading us.

After lunch we are divided into 3 smaller tour groups, each assigned a guide, and begin a 2 hr tour of the Wilcox Estate. It is quite amazing and I can see why once a person came here to work, he would never want to leave. The workers were well taken care of for the times and it's such a beautiful setting with a wonderful climate.

Next, we arrive and check in to the Aloha Beach Hotel. Susan tells us to unpack and get settled quickly because we have a "happy hour" appointment with John Lydgate in Lydgate Park in front of the hotel. We meet John Lydgate and get to hear the "talk story" of Lydgate Park. It is a beautiful ocean front park that is used for public recreation and community activities. There is also a section where ancient ruins have been found and a memorial has been established to those
