Urinetown
Working hard at the shore stationToday we were all up and about by 7:45 a.m. and we didn't even need to be up by 9:00 a.m! We left for the shore station around 10 and spend about 2 hours there. At the shore station we did the same thing that we did on Tuesday. We used the theodolite and took the postions of all the vessels and pods of whales in the area. On Tuesday there was a lot of whales and only a couple of vessels. But today was totally the opposite, there was a ton of vessels and not as many whales. We also saw a school of Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins. There more than 50 dolphins that were jumping and swimming right passed us. It was incredible. After the we were done with the two 15 minute sessions, we headed back to the house for lunch. But before we got there we decided to stop and pick up some barbecue chicken at a roadside stand. We also got some shave ice, that cooled us down. After lunch we chilled at the house for about an hour and half. Then we went over to Chris and Yin's house. We learned about Aardvark, its a program
Urinetown
Learning about Aardvark. that uses the information we took from the shore station and lays it all out for us. Then, we did a mark recapture experiment that estimated the number of sealife that scientists actually see in the ocean. We used had two different color beans and started with all white beans, then we took some out and exchanged them with red beans. We did that 20 times and then used 3 different formulas to figure all the numbers out and found out with formula was the best. It was dinner time so we drove back to our house for some mac and cheese. =) Next we went to Foodland because Tasha and Mary had to get some money from Western Union. After they got some money we went to HPA (Hawaii Preparatory Acadamy) for a play put on by the students called "Urinetown." It was a funny musical about what the world would be like without water and having to pay a fee to pee. At 9:30 the musical was over and we went back to Foodland for some drinks and souviners. We finally got back to the house and got ready for bed because we were exhasted.
