The Silver Comet Trail in North West Georgia Text and Photos last updated: 2017 Number of times on this trail: 6 Location: NW Georgia Distance: 61 miles (99 km) Distance markers: miles and kilometres Surface: asphalt and concrete Width: 3 metres and more Grade: Flat with a number of “slopes” Conditions of trail: Very good We first biked this trail in 2008 and it has taken 7 years (and a lot of trails in between) to return to one of the finest trails that we have come across. I’m Tony McCarver I’ve been married to my wife Marci for 35 years. We attend Orange Hill Baptist Church and serve together at Missions Resources International. I was saved at the age of nine and attended church regularly with my entire family. By my early teenage years I began to move away from the Lord. Marci and I were married in 1975. Marci didn’t attend church growing up and I was not walking with the Lord so He was not part of our lives. Through a series of events in my life God lead me to a pastor friend and I shared with him what was going on in my life. After sharing his first question was “Do you know Christ as your Savior”? I answered yes and he responded by saying that I needed to ... read more

I am excited to be a part on my fourth mission trip. This year my wife Suzy and I will be leading a group to Santa Cruz Bolivia. We will be able to minister to children with five VBS sessions. There will be a Bible study held for the men and women. Also we will be putting a roof on a meeting space. When I am home I am in sales which I have done in Atlanta since 1979. I have a very interesting and rewarding job. I have been a member of VL for over a year and a half. My hobbies are hiking, cooking and travel. I have three children and four grandchildren. Suzy and I have been married for 38 years. Looking forward to you going on our next mission trip! ... read more

My name is Marci McCarver and I have been married to my husband, Tony, for 35 years. I was not brought up in church and did not attend until after I was married for five years. Our sinful lifestyle of partying led to a lot of problems in our marriage. My husband, Tony, who was a Christian, had gotten far away from God but thankfully God never abandoned him. He realized his need to return to Christ and for us to go to church. After 6 months of attending church I heard a message on faith that was speaking directly to me. The pastor was saying belief in God is not based on our feelings but on our faith. And with faith as small as a mustard seed, God can do the impossible through you. That ... read more

I am Suzy Edwards, mother to three grown children and grandmother to four of the cutest grandchildren you have ever seen! A little background: My dad was a pastor of a church for most of my growing-up years, but he always wanted to be a foreign missionary. God never saw fit to open that door for him, but we had missionaries in our church and in our home all of the time. I guess my heart for foreign mission work was handed down to me from him. Also, as a side, my dad was in the Air Force (before he was a pastor) and we lived overseas as well as all over the United States - so add a little “wander-lust” in with the missionary background, and you see why I enjoy it so much. We are only 20 days away from our deadline to make the full payment to Cross Cultural Solutions for the program. This only includes stay and meals for 2 weeks at Rabat. We are also looking to fundraise for transportation (flight tickets) that runs between $1100-1500. My upcoming fundraiser is a "Pedicure with a Purpose" party on September 19th. This event is sponsored by Ruth Swank, a Mary Kay rep. who was nice enough to offer me this great deal. I have invited girlfriends to come on a sunday afternoon to get pampered with pedicures, hand lotions, chair messages, make up products to try, and preview the holiday collection. We will even have some light refreshments and plenty of chit-chatter. Portion of all sale proceeds (before and during the event) will go to CCS towards my ... read more

I recently won the Do It While You're Young/Global Humanitarian Discussions Radio contest. The submission asked for a volunteer abroad story & I wrote about my experience in Russia last year. As part of my winning, I received an Amazon gift certificate (which I used to buy a Frommers Morocoo guide book), an article in the online magazine and a spot on the radio show! (I feel like a celebrity). DIWYY is a cool web site catering to young people who love to travel. Many of the article come from readers who have experienced a destination first hand. There are also lots of good tips and tricks for cost effective, solo travelling and of course, volunteering. You can read about me on the volunteer spotlight here http://www.diwyy.com/new-blog/travel-volunteer-spotlight-sucheta-rawal/ Megan Schiebe, Founder of Travel Volunteer Search and Host ... read more

I have frequently dined at Muss & Turners restaurant, located around the corner from where I live, in the Ivy Walk shopping center in Smyrna. It has been a wonderful lunch & dinner option, which I have also introduced to some of my friends. Everyone has loved it! Here are a few things I love about Muss & Turners... Nice ambience & outdoor patio seating Awesome sandwhiches (my personal favourites are the Cobbler & No Meat Please) Good selection of salads, to dine in or take out Extensive international beer & wine list Shopping area for artisan cheese, crackers, sauces, pasta, etc. When I wrote about our upcoming fundrasing event to M&T, they happily donated us a Gift Certificate for a "Self-Guided Wine Tasting" for up to 6 guests, valued at $150! Thank you Ryan, Chris ... read more
