Hey y’all! What a day! We drove to Savannah which is truly one of the most beautiful cities we’ve see. We all took a trolley tour (once more except Bill) which was great and really gave you a feel for the city. Bill and I had taken the tour twice before but since I can’t remember yesterday…it was all new to me!! The narrator was quite informative and some of the fun things we saw involved movies…over 60 movies have been filmed in Savannah! He drove us by the park where Forrest Gump sits on the bench talking to that lady at the beginning and the end of the movie. We saw the house where “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” was filmed! It was really exciting and the history and architecture were amazing! And while we were on the tour, there was another movie being filmed…being directed by Robert Redford…we didn’t see Bob…that’s what you call him if your cool, but there were film crews and streets blocked off and people in costumes…wow!
Before we went on the tour we had found “The Lady and Sons” (Paula Deen-Food Network) restaurant. We were going to be
satisfied just to see the place never thinking we would get to eat there…but they had an opening and we got reservations for lunch…we couldn’t believe it! Of course the tour ran late so Bill, who you remember was not on the tour, went to the restaurant and was able to change the time. So once we finished with the tour we were off to Paula Deen’s!! We were a bit early so we went into her shop. We were looking around when suddenly Donna grabbed my arm! Standing right there was Jamie Deen!!!! Well, number one, he is gorgeous and number two; he is just a nice guy, polite, friendly…just sweet. He chatted with Donna a bit about his mum and signed a couple of books and then we had our picture taken with him. It was all very low key, no big fuss…he’s a credit to his mother!! (As my mother would say!)We then had lunch, a buffet, with really good food…Paula Deen food…mac and cheese, fried chicken, black eyed peas etc. One funny thing…after you have the buffet, the waiter comes around and offers you one of three desserts that go with the buffet…he has to bring
them to you. One of them was called “gooey sweet potato butter cake”. When it came time for John to order he said...and I’m laughing while I type this, “I’ll have the gooey butter bird” The what?!!!! What did he say?!!! We were all laughing so hard, we could barely order our own dessert…Where the heck did that come from…maybe all that bird talk is making him nuts!!
After our late lunch, we headed back to Hilton Head. We met later at the fire ring…no one was there but us…maybe the stink eye worked…and then to bed.
Today’s Road Lesson: One never knows what will come out of John Kennedy’s mouth!
