After a much awaited, and much deserved morning of sleeping in, we headed to Nashville on Wednesday afternoon. Sleeping in, followed by two days off (in Embassy Suites) was amazing. We slept a lot, went out to dinner, and did a lot of paperwork. Kyle and I were busy advancing shows and I was making a light plot also.
On Wednesday night, we all got together to watch a movie in the boys’ room. I was on the couch, and when we started the movie, said, “Wake me up when the movie is over.” I think I saw the first 4 minutes of Tomb Raider, then was sound asleep. After a bit, I woke up and realized I had no idea what movie was on or what was going on in it. I sort of looked around at who was there, and about 30 seconds later, Kyle looked up at me to see if I was awake. I quickly gave him a face like, “Yeah, I’m awake! I’ve been awake the whole time!” I was asleep again soon. Yeah, not sure I’ll live that one down.
Thursday was lots of paperwork, then we went to a party. The kids are doing a show for this group of dentists- the Crown Convention, and they had some big benefit concert at the Wildhorse Saloon, and invited us. (Kids didn’t go, but we were pretty happy to know it was 18 and over so I could ;) ) It was pretty fun- lots of food, 10 country stars doing numbers, watching people play pool. Although, I must say, the lot of us are pretty poor audience members. First, we walked in and all looked up at the gear. Then, we noticed every bit of audio feedback and how we didn’t like the mix. A comment was made similar to, “with a projector that size, you’d think they’d get a better pictures.” All in all, we had a good time though. A few people with us (contractors, not full-timers) had a bit too much to drink, which became slightly entertaining for some of us, and pretty embarrassing for another.
Again, the plan was to stay up late and watch a movie, but this time, everyone else was tired and I was awake, so that didn’t happen. Kyle and I were out checking email in the hall (because we could only get it in one spot) and ended up staying up past 2 talking. It was really nice to sit and connect. One of the topics of discussion was this evening was the gal that had gotten really drunk and was all over him. Another was the fact that there are currently three gay people traveling with us. We both talked about how we had never really been around people like that much, so it was new. Lots of processing. Trying to figure out whether or not we, as a Christian organization, should hire them- have them represent us (especially since it is such a huge no-no in Africa) and what the Bible says about it all. We also talked about what it’s like growing up as a church kid. It was all interesting.
Now it’s Friday, and we did a lot of paperwork in the hotel, and now are on the road to Atlanta, GA again. On the way out of town, we tried to go see the Grand Ole Opry, but ended up at the new one and Opryland, so we decided to just get on the road. There was a huge accident outside of Atlanta that backed us up almost an hour. A semi truck overturned, it looked like. Yikes!
