The
Georgia Aquarium is billed as the world's largest aquarium. More than 30 million litres of water are home to 120,000 animals of 500 different species. The aquarium's multiple viewing galleries feature wildlife ranging from whale sharks and African black-footed penguins to a giant octopus and beluga whales.
One of the attractions is the 30m long acrylic tunnel in the
Ocean Voyager gallery. The whole gallery is specially designed to house whale sharks, the largest fish species in the world. Further, stingrays, sawfish and hammerhead sharks can be seen in the waters of this captive ocean habitat. As the aquarium states
no other aquarium in the world has ever attempted to manage the variety and size of fish in this major exhibit.
The
Tropical Diver section features curious garden eels and clown fishes, seahorses and jellyfish. At the centre of this gallery is a living reef, complete with an overhead crashing wave, living corals and a large number of colourful reef fish.
Fishes and marine mammals of the cold oceanic waters are presented in the
Cold Water Quest. Beluga whales, sea lions, sea otters and penguins can be found here. A more exotic sight is the Australian leafy
sea dragon. Finally, the
Georgia Explorer and the
River Scout gallery include piranhas, otters, sea stars and shrimps.
Stinging sea nettleThe stinging sea nettle is a species of jellyfish. Some jellies commute more than 1,000 metres up and down in the water daily.

Giant Grouper, the world's biggest bony fishA grouper starts out his life as female and later switches sex to male. It can weigh up to 400kg and has at least seven rows of teeth on the middle of its lower jaw. And it looks rather ugly.
Largetooth SawfishThis fish has a short but massive saw with some 14 to 22 very large teeth on each side. The saw is used for digging for food, attacking prey and as a defence mechanism.
