Our campground in this area was the Leon County Parks and Recreation Coe Landing on Lake Talquin. We drove into Tallahassee and rode about 10 miles of the Tallahassee-St Marks Historical Railroad State Trail. We had hoped to ride all the way to St. Marks, but Mike's e-bike motor was not working. The we drove by the capital building (3rd tallest capital building in the US) and onto the Florida State University campus- beautiful! The last stop was the Alfred B Maclay Gardens State Park. It is a day use park with beautiful grounds. The ornamental gardens were first planted in 1923 by Alfred B and Louise Maclay after they purchased the property for their winter home. We enjoyed walking through the gardens and listening to the audio at each station. The gardens included a beautiful ... read more

It’s one month into college football, and I’ve now been to stadiums in four of the Power Five conferences (only the Pac-12 is left). And in five weeks, I’ve attended seven games. The home team has won every single time. This week found me in the ACC, watching NC State on the road, yet again. I bet they want me to stop doing that. The home team this week was Florida State, the Seminoles, in Tallahassee. When I was a teenager, Florida State was THE team to beat. And the town I spent part of middle- and all of high school in is exactly 100 miles away from the campus. In fact, the CBS affiliate for our town has been based in Tallahassee for as long as I can remember. So FSU was pumped into our ... read more

We started out on adventure 2019 on May 10 leaving from home (Titusville) Fl and heading to Holiday RV Park in Panacea Fl. We had the rig checked out at Cummins Orlando the week before, had a full Preventative Maintenance performed and told them some issues we were experiencing. They gave us a clean bill of health and ready to roll. Not so fast. About 230 miles into our trip, there was a loud crashing noise like something fell our of our engine, and something did. Thank goodness for roadside assistance through FMCA. The grear box to the fan assembly and clutch broke off, causing much damage and we needed a tow. Jimmy's Towing came out with a tow truck which was small to tow our rig. When I called in I told them the weight ... read more

Next stop Germany - Meet the ladies Trying to write this introductory blog has been a little challenging. All of my two followers are probably thinking where did I pick Lori, Kim and Mandy up from. Well, actually high school. In high school I wasn’t as exciting as I am now. I knew a lot of folks superficially but I really only had one super close friend (Karen). I ran cross country with a wonderful group of folks, played golf with some super nice girls and attended an occasional field party but my close friendships came in college or after high school. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my high school career and enjoy all the friends I’ve made. I wouldn’t change that experience for the world. Lori So about five years ago I walked into ... read more

When we went on our trip to New York State and Niagara Falls, Canada we did not realize how many wineries we would visit and the amount of wine we would have accumulated during that time. As we started to buy more and more wine we decided it would be a great idea to share these bottles with some of my girlfriends. So the time had come and it was time to share some vino with my girlfriends. I wanted it to be a nice intimate experience with just a few friends and some good food to share. For this wine tasting I decided to create a few cheese boards. I do not know too much about pairing wines with cheeses so I asked 319 Wine and Cheese for guidance. 319 Wine and Cheese(http://www.319wineandcheese.com/) If you ... read more

Planning, packing, animals and we are on our way!!! A couple of you guys might have followed my last blog (www.mytb.org/starlingsacrossthepond) and I was pleased with it but maaaan it was a commitment! The main reason I start, continued and completed the blog was because it was just an amazing once in a lifetime trip and I really wanted to share it with folks. I have to say that as much of a task as it was it was very well received, grammar errors, incorrect spelling and maybe in incorrect fact or two (whatevs - I gave it a good effort). So, here I am, attempting to document another two week Starling adventure. This trip has taken us almost six months to plan so here's the rundown. We will begin in New York, New York then ... read more

Tallahassee RV Park, Tallahassee, Florida We logged another 250 miles yesterday. But it was green-dot travel, pretty much the whole way. We followed US98 along the coast all the way down to Appalachicola and then went north to Tallahassee. Views of the ocean are frequent, and when you can't see the ocean, you are looking at stunning ocean-front homes, some small, some huge. And when you can't see the homes, it's because of thick stands of Florida pine. Florida is flat - very flat. Joan and I started laughing when, just after crossing into Florida from Alabama (at Florala), we saw a sign that we had just driven over the highest point in the state at a nose-bleeding 345 feet. (This low elevation is going to become even more significant as the world's oceans rise over ... read more

Hey everybody! It's that time again. Girls road trip 2017!!! Whoop, whoop! This year we are going to St. Augustine, Florida. It is the perfect spot because it is almost the same distance from Tallahassee and Wellington (where Heather lives). AS I have done in the past, let me introduce the ladies to ya! This year we have Heather, Kay and Del. I have previously introduced you to Heather and Del in the Savannah post (https://www.travelblog.org/North-America/United-States/Florida/Tallahassee/blog-907438.html) so I will try to tell you a little bit more about them in this post. Heather It is just so hard to believe that Heather and I have known each other for over 20 years (we are creeping up on 25 actually). We met in college and even though we haven't lived in the same city since 1994... read more

Starlings on the move Quote from mom(years ago): 'You know, 'so and so' told me that they saw you and said 'I just didn't think Olivia would grow up to be such a beautiful young lady.'' Another gem, from years ago, 'Olivia when you were in middle school 'they' told me you wouldn't ever amount to anything in high school because you talk too much.' Well, here's to 40 years of knocking down the critics that have been so mouthy to my momma! I'm doing allllright!! ----- It's been an interesting month. We saw a dear friend get married, helped a friend recover at our house from hip surgery, my parents dog passed away, our dog has no blood but somehow continues to survive, my mother had a stroke and our oldest had dental issues with ... read more
