Big Pool
Sun N Fun has a huge pool - it really lives up to its name! This is our fifth year at Sun N Fun, a top RV resport, beautifully situated among Sarasota's wonderful attractions and restaurants. Obviously we love it. It is unique in having a restaurant, grill, bar with entertainment most nights; as well as mini and pitch n put golf, fishing in a few small lakes, wood working shop, lapidary shop, water color lessons and more. Something new at Sun n Fun is the "Spa!" It's brilliant logic to have pedicures, manicures and other spa services available at RV Parks! I peeked in the mystical sounds, sents and dimmed lighting made it all very Zen!
We ate at the grill a few times for snacks and pub fair but had to take a walk after a value laden $9.95 buffet of stuffed cabbage (golumki), pierogi, kielbasa, sauerkraut, beet salad, hunters' stew and a variety of other Polish yummies at "Polish Night" at "Boondoggles," the Sun n Fun cafe! Accordion music in the grill had couples polkaing off the excess carbs about after dinner! I'm notoriously not a fan of buffets, but this one was well supervised, appropriate sized (not too large) warming pans refreshed frequently and a very food friendly "sneeze guard."
Pool Side Frozen Strawberry Daquri
It's nice to have an RV park with a bar and grill at the pool! Cheers! We gave shuffle board a try. It sounds like an old fogie game, but it's really fun! It was also fun to watch a group of guys launch their model sail boats; but it was all about the pool - night and day - this, the last week in February. Our weather during our week at Sun N Fun made it hard to go "off campus."
This said, we ventured out for a stunning production of Henrik Ibsen's "The lady from the Sea" at Florida State University Center for the Performing Arts. The theatre is part of the Ringling complex. We had been to ASOLO Rep productions before; but this was our first show at the Cook Theatre. The acting, set, technical theatre and costumes for Ibsen's dark, brooding mysterious play was first rate.
A few fav restaurants at this end of Sarasota didn't disappoint - Mi Pueblo, the night we went to the Ringling complex for the play - O'Leary's overlooking the bay - Sand Bar out on Anna Maria Island and Patrick's downtown on Main St.
We also made a special trip downtown for the Saturday Farmers' Market where we like to buy seafood. It's
Lipizzan
There is a Lipizzan Horse Training Facility near Sun N Fun - fortunately (or unfortunately) the weather was such that we didn't want to "leave campus" very much - saving this for a Thursday, Friday or Saturday NEXT year if we get a cloudy day! in the same place as last week's Juried Craft Show.
We are saving the Famous Gabriella Herrmann Royal Lipizzan Stallions of Austria for another visit. The public can watch the magnificent all white stallions perform acrobatic feats with beauty and grace. November-April Thursdays 3:00, Fridays 3:00, and Saturdays 10:00
So, it's "ta ta for now, Sarasota!' We're packed up and leaving in the morning for an RV Resort near Everglades City. Hope you enjoy traveling with us.
