Woke up to a major thunder experience, but didn’t result in much rain at all...only a couple of small showers. Then off to Pensacola. I followed in the car, as it was only about 30 miles. When we arrived at the local Walmart, we decided it was too much in the middle of town...which was much larger than I had anticipated...anyway, we ventured on to Gulf Breeze. Parked at the Walmart there and took the short drive out to Pensacola Beach. Fabulous!!! You could certainly tell that there were both a naval air station and an air force base (Pensacola Naval and Eglin AFB)!! Lots of short hair on the beach this afternoon!! I was surprised that the beach was so much more crowded than Gulf Shores which we just left, but we figured at least 70% of beach-goers were in the military. The white sandy beach was beautiful, there was a storm on the horizon, and the water was a bit cooler than we’ve noticed. It was terrific just to walk along the beach!!! It was sunny to start with and then the clouds moved in around sunset. By about 8pm the thunder was kicking up again, and this time it produced a really good rain. More thunder and lightening throughout the night, and one really hard shower, but didn’t last too long.
