"Walk-in-and-Win" auditions were held at MGM studios for tapings of "Who Wants to be a Millioinaire". They randomly chose 325 people out of the 1,500 people who showed up at 6:00 AM to try and get on the show and I wasn't one of the lucky ones. Bummer. I did, however, have a gargantuan epiphany on the way into MGM when an elderly woman from Hudson, FL named Gloria fell on the pavement and broke her nose. Everyone was so frantic to get into the park for the auditions that no one would stop to help her. I stayed until the paramedics arrived and talked to her for 15 minutes or so. She was really counting on getting in there to win a million dollars so she could buy a car. More on this story later--probably ... read more

Basically went to Universal Studios and Disneyworld. Its kind of funny down there, it is really touristy and kitschy. Universal was pretty good. We were there for New Year's Eve fireworks which had a good atmosphere. I think I just may have cracked the theme park going tactics. Go early, before it opens and be with the first crowd to go in. Go on the popular rides one after the other - in the morning will hardly be any queue for about the first hour or so. Or, if you go a little bit later, start from way at the back of the park, because most people will be still near the front. We actually moved hotels to stay at Disneyworld - which gives you 3 extra hours in the parks. It wasn't that expensive because ... read more

A big fan of Lenscrafters now. Lost first pair of reading glasses when headed out to India. They are somewhere in LA. Thankfully, took the wrong seat on the Cathay Pacific 747 and just above the seat where was sitting was... a pair of glasses. The flight attendant picked them off the back of the seat, "Are these your glasses?" Before I could say "Yes" they were in my hands. From there could read menus, maps, with this new pair of glasses perfectly throughout trip in India. Then when departed India (morning of the New Delhi bombings, below) the eyeglasses departed me. Couldn't find them anywhere for the flight back. Back in the Palm Beaches, bought a new pair for $200 bucks. Then when went off to Guatemala to do craniosacral therapy and craniocean work, on ... read more

Rumi once sang, Don't look at my outer form, take what is in my hand. Midway into CraniOcean® Mini Intensives, based on CranioSacral Therapy and other cutting edge modalities, one likes to ask, what is the theme of the sessions? Have you been able to discern a theme continuing throughout the session work? Okay, what is the theme of this trip to India with Carolyn Myss? First, why is it that so many people think the spiritual path has nothing to do with being human? Spiritual people are supposed to have everything on the instant, just with a wave of the hand, things manifest and tra la la. If you look at it, this makes a spiritual person into an arrogant slob who doesn't do any work, once called, sloth, if memory serves. They just sit ... read more

Marce's mom, Mashenka, drove us down to Orlando last night to the sounds of Coldplay, Maria Carter, and Steph Taylor. We would have been listening through our old speakers, but Marce's brother, A. J., helped Allen install new speakers in Sirius (our car) on Monday night. Without them, we'd still be in Gainesville packing - thank you two so much! We quietly crept out of our hotel room at La Quinta to let them keep sleeping, and we arrived at Orlando International bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Well, maybe not bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, but at least we're awake! Interestingly, we've already seen some of the "usual" holiday characters. Our shuttle driver, Carl, was like a breath of Christmas cheer. We're hoping it wasn't eggnog, but his warm wishes and anecdotes were an unexpected break from the usual ... read more

Hello Blog Fans: What a grand slam weekend! Allen and Marce drove down from Gainesville, I flew in from the Bahamas, and Ina got "sick of work" so we could celebrate all weekend long with Mom, Guille and Grandpa! Mom officially retired on December 16th. Mom's retirement gift was a laptop so we fully expect to see her blogging very soon. Speaking of blogs, Allen and Marce are headed for a West Coast Adventure and are blogging as "The Boy and The Girl." Check them out at theboyandthegirl.com or right here on travelblog. I am in Orlando today, well some small town outside of Orlando actually, visiting Nicole, Jason and Matthieu Blanford. Matthieu, my godson, has learned to say Titi (that's me) and is very good at saying "Titi watch!" Nicki said I would soon regret ... read more

May, 2005.... Got her all cleaned up, now we've got to figure out how to use this thing. Patty told me later that when we first pulled the thing off the lot she was thinking "Oh my God what have we got ourselves into?" But being old sailors, we knew about conserving water and batteries and self sufficiency. Besides, parking this thing is a lot easier than docking a 37'sailboat in a cross wind or currents! Our goal is to see much of the natural beauty this country has to offer, especially the national and state parks and scenic areas. We wanted a camper because we wanted to be right in the middle of the parks with fresh air, scenery, hiking trails, less crowds and no motels. That and we're too old for tent camping anymore! ... read more

It is almost time to go home. I have stared at these pale yellow walls for way too many years now. My time here is limited. Only another 2 months to go. I am working overtime to save as much money as possible to begin my journey. I am heading for the Keys the day after tomorrow. I am looking forward to that. Four days in the Keys with my youngest daughter. She has never been. She is the only true native Floridian in the bunch, and the only one not to have seen the Keys. It's a shame, I tell you. Four days of riding a bicycle, watching sunsets and laying in a hammock. Life doesn't get much better than that. Plus FREE happy hour from 4-5 daily!! Sunsets in Key West...ahhh. Sunny and mild ... read more

With Alberto in the news, it reminded me of last year around the first week of November. We had made plans to go to Marathon on the Keyes. Thinking we were safe from the hurricane season but we were wrong. A week ahead of our departure we received a phone call from the resort. The resort was closed due to damages also no water or electricity yet. Well, what are you going to do? We had travel insurance, we could cancel but no we started to call around the Keyes and no one had space or was not open. We decide to try farther north and west, no luck. What do you do when all else fails, you try Disney. They were open. We are time sharers and were able to find a resort that we ... read more
