I wasn't feeling well at all, but tonight was the night Paul & Colleen were taking the kids out to Disney Springs. Andrew and I had pre-paid for the Disney fireworks dessert cruise, called Ferrytale Wishes, as a special date night. So, I was determined to go! I napped all afternoon and took a few ibuprofen. Instead of wearing a nice dress I packed, I put on a comfortable top and jeans and called it good. It was date night, and were going to be fun! We ate dinner at Maya, a table service restaurant at our Coronado Springs Resort. The food was excellent, and there was a man playing an acoustic guitar which really added to the atmosphere. When we finished, we caught the bus to EPCOT. From there, we hopped on the monorail to ... read more

Let me start off by saying, this wasn't a typical half day at Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom was set to close at 4:30pm on Thursday for a private event. This rarely happens. I wondered if the park would be a lot less crowded because most people wouldn't want to waste a ticket on a day the park closed so early. On the other hand, I wondered if thousands of other people would have the same idea, and so maybe there wouldn't be a big drop in crowds. We decided to take the gamble, and it paid off! We got to do so much during our Magic Kingdom half day. We arrived just before the 8am opening, and it took a bit of time to get through the main gates. Once we did, we booked it ... read more

We decided to sleep in a bit this morning, since we were out late at Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. We used some of the snack credits from our dining plan to get bagels and pastries from a little cafe at our resort. Our tumblers that we got from our free dining plan also allow us to have unlimited coffee refills, so we got our on-the-go breakfast for free! We hopped on the bus to EPCOT around 10 or so, and when we arrived, we went straight to Frozen Ever After, the new Frozen ride. It's located in the Norway section of EPCOT. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a Fastpass+ for this ride. Because it's so new and Frozen is so popular, it's not an easy one to get. I did have one glimmer of ... read more

We're on a most magical adventure. Today, we went to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. This is a special event that requires a party ticket. Party-goers can arrive at the park at 4pm, and non-party visitors leave the park at 7pm. We arrived at 3:30pm, and we were let in shortly before 4pm. That worked out for us because we had dinner reservations at Beast's castle at 4:25. The restaurant is called "Be Our Guest," and it's a difficult reservation to get. Up until a few days before our trip, we only had a reservation for 2 because it was all we could find. Thankfully, one opened up for 4 people this week, and Andrew managed to snag it for us! Before we went to the castle, we stopped to use our ... read more

We had a long travel day. We left Des Moines at 9:30am and drove to Kansas City. It's about a 3 hour drive. We took a shuttle from the economy lot and flew to Charlotte. We ran across two terminals and caught our next flight to Orlando. There, we got to take a little train to the transportation area of the airport, where we caught the Disney's Magical Express shuttle to our All-Star Movies resort for the night. We got to our resort around 11pm EST. Thanks to Disney World's amazing system, we didn't have to stand in the check-in line (which was long even at 11pm...). We'd gotten a text with our room number, so we walked straight there. Our Magic Bands, which they'd shipped to us, were linked to our room. So, we used ... read more

Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774I awoke before the sun came up and finished editing my photos from the night before. I headed outside before breakfast to take sunny shots of the Grand Floridian property, including the place where the poor child was killed this summer. The "Beware of Alligator" signs are abundant. Before parting, I had decided it was high time my husband experience a character meal. We had paid a significant amount of money for a buffet breakfast at the Marriott Orlando when we were here in May. At the time, I remarked that for just $2 more, we could be having a meal with some classic Disney characters. So at 8:05, we headed into 1900 Park Fare off the GF lobby (that's the address where Mary Poppins was a nanny). We scooped up our breakfast items, including Mickey-shaped ... read more

Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774 I LOVE Christmas and I love Disney. So what's not to like about Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas party! I asked my husband, whose enthusiasm for Christmas and Disney no where near matches mine, if he would take me to Disney for just one night as a birthday present. He reluctantly said "yes" because he could see how enthusiastic I was. It wasn’t actually my birthday, but it was my birthday month. Mickey didn’t care. I booked our trip through Debi at Mouse Counselors. After a lot of consideration, I decided to stay at the Grand Floridian, Disney’s top property. I had eaten there before but had never stayed there. It was just one night, and it was a birthday celebration after all. We arrived in Orlando. I had checked in online a few ... read more

In early 2015 I won a contest on a Tallahassee radio station. The prize was two tickets to Universal Orlando during the "Mardi Gras" event. The radio commercial about this event insisted that there would be a fabulous parade rivaling the "real" ones (which any traveler knows are along the Gulf Coast between Mobile and New Orleans); and the parade would be followed by a concert. Now I am a rather "fluffy" woman in my 50's and with a touch of arthritis. I take a folding chair everywhere, just in case I need it. The chair was not allowed into the park under any circumstances. That was the first red flag indicating that this might not be my best experience. Less than five minutes after getting back from putting the chair in the car, I was ... read more

Geo: 28.5377, -81.3774Thursday sees an early start. Alarm's off at 5.30am.Out the door by 6.15am.Flight departs on time at 9.30 (we thought it was a 2 hour flight but its 3 hours but we lose an hour). Arrive at Dallas to find our plan has been delayed nearly 3 hours!!!They were kind enough to feed us.Next leg is 16 and a half hours.!Oh no, delayed again, and now cancelled. Time to collect the luggage and head down and rebook a flight. Decide Graham will collect luggage and Jodie will head down to rebook as we guess there won't be many seats left on the next flight, at least not enough to accommodate a whole other flight.WOW.......very badly handled. We've waited an hour and Jodie was 5th in queue. Only 2-3 people serving and its taking 30-60 ... read more
