December 18, 2014: WOW! Downtown Disney has changed a whole lot from 2005 that's for sure! Almost 10 years, and they have really advanced. Walking through downtown felt great. Jui and I took pictures with almost every single Mickey/Minnie ears we saw, and sang with almost every single street performer. Downtown dazzles at night with the most beautiful lights. I also saw the world's largest Disney store and probably spent at least an hour in there! I finally bought my Minnie ears as well, and wore them the entire night. We had to wait in a long line to eat dinner at some sandwich place, but the wait was worth it. The sandwiches were delicious, and kept us going for the rest of the night. I recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, and filling ... read more

The one about quality time with (part of) the family The reason I left NC so early this year was due in part to being able to join up with some of the family for a few days at Disney World. Kristine and Lou along with Maggie and Hudson left Park City, UT for a month long whirlwind tour of the east coast for the holidays. They spent time in NJ, then Christmas with me and Tim and his family in NC, and travelled to Charleston to see Maggie’s grandparents then on to Lou’s family in Fort Lauderdale for New Years. The final leg of their trip was 3 nights at WDW. The main campground I spend time at is in Orlando, so it was a no brainer for me to meet up with them. Remember ... read more

The next morning we were able to sleep in and decided to drive to the studios rather than take the buses again. Our first fast pass was at Star Tours. I wondered if the boys would like this as each of them had found things that surprised me to scare them (Pirate makeover, disney characters, tiki birds). With Emry's head barely scraping the height restriction, we all enjoyed the ride! Then we came out and decided to take them to Muppets 3D, something our whole family used to love. G really does not like shows until about halfway through, then he either loves them or hates them. Fortunately, he loved this one. When we came out, it was pouring, pouring rain. The whole exit ramp was packed with people and when it seemed like we would ... read more

In late July 2014, we were able to take a last minute trip to Florida and one of the goals was to see how inexpensively we could have 6 nights / 7 days in the "Sunshine State." Of course the question of whether to drive or fly was the first thing to be decided. We were able to find flights from Columbus, Ohio to Orlando for about $270 each R/T which turned out to be a really great move. Flying gave us more vacation time and less drive time. It was also the first time we had flown Southwest Airlines which proved to work-out just fine. That's the first part of "cheap". Next is where to stay and I had a credit on my account for $195.00 from the Marriott Vacation Club from an earlier trip ... read more

Howdy from Florida! I met Stu in Miami and spent a couple relaxing days there. Absolutely brilliant to see Stuart after so long, I just hope that our time won't go so quickly this time! The weather was lovely in Miami but it looks like it will be the last of it! We spent most of our time chilling on the beach and eating nice food..not so eventful really! I did get my hair cut though (my first since leaving England) and it is a terrible cut! The hairdresser told m my hair was in bad condition and decided to chop a few inches off. Trying to curl it or put it up in a bun whenever I can to forget how bad it is! Our last day in Miami, we picked up our hire car ... read more

3/4/2014 - Today headed to Magic Kingdom. Took the ferry into the park. We did The Hall of Presidents, The Carosel of Progress, It's a Small World, Space Mountain, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Carribean and ate in the park. Hall of Presidents - life like automatons of all the Presidents, some of then stood and talked. Space Mountain - Aleta and I rode this one, Aleta screamed the entire ride, I laughed and held on tight. :-) The other rides/attractions were really neat. They now have included in the price of the ticket "Fast Pass", this gives you a fast pass to 3 rides/attractions of your choice. Really good. Stayed at the park for the light parade, the fireworks, and the light show on the castle. All was amazing, especially the light show on ... read more

Sunday, January 26, 2014 On our way home! Some of our thoughts... Buying the package vacation from WDW: This was definitely an easy way to go. Disney offered a lot of perks by acting as our travel agent, including Magical Express. I really liked not having to deal with my luggage at all during travel. There were other freebies as well, but the general piece of mind as a Disney customer was really great. Magic Bands: We were part of a new ticketing system. The Magic Bands were linked to our tickets, room keys, dining plan, photopass, and fastpass. We wore the bracelets all day, every day, and just had to touch the Mickey icon on our band to the icon on the register, ride station, or hotel door and we had access. It was very ... read more

Saturday, January 25, 2014 Our last day of vacation - we made the most of it by arriving at park opening and leaving just as the park was closing. Jen was great and hussled with me to the safari ride as soon as we arrived, so we could avoid the 60-minute wait that stacked up within an hour. Friday, January 24, 2014 Back for another round at Hollywood Studios. We made it a slow day and took the opportunity to just kick back and enjoy ourselves. The pirate show was a let-down, totally designed for kids and no seating. But the day was saved by the most excellent performance of Beauty and the Beast. Of course, I silently cheered for Gaston - he's such a looker! Thursday, January 23, 2014 Jen and I returned to the Magic Kingdom for a full day of fairy tales. The big highlight of the evening, and one of the top moments of the whole trip, was having dinner at the Be Our Guest Restaurant in Belle's ballroom. It was as if we had stepped into the movie. Disney absolutely out-did themselves in creating that experience. I timed our reservations just right so we would be able to watch the fireworks while waiting to be called for our table. After dinner, the park was closed and we practically had the entire place to ourselves as we floated on fairy dust to the exit. Rides and Experiences: Character Greeting: Mary Poppins Breakfast - Starbucks Astro Blaster Space Ranger Spin Character Greeting: Buzz Lightyear Space Mountain Autopia/Speedway Character Greetign: ... read more
