Howdy from Florida!
I met Stu in Miami and spent a couple relaxing days there. Absolutely brilliant to see Stuart after so long, I just hope that our time won't go so quickly this time! The weather was lovely in Miami but it looks like it will be the last of it! We spent most of our time chilling on the beach and eating nice food..not so eventful really! I did get my hair cut though (my first since leaving England) and it is a terrible cut! The hairdresser told m my hair was in bad condition and decided to chop a few inches off. Trying to curl it or put it up in a bun whenever I can to forget how bad it is!
Our last day in Miami, we picked up our hire car and, because we had booked through American Express, we got a free upgrade to a Ford Mustang. Driving in style up the east coast! We tried to book accommodation for our next stop, Orlando, the night before but couldn't find any cheap accommodation and thought we would just try in the car on the way up to Orlando. I searched and searched and
couldn't find anything that was a decent price. We stopped at a service station and they told us that a MegaCon convention was going on in Orlando. Now we understood why we couldn't find accommodation. We decided we would check out MegaCon and see if we could get tickets. They told me to come back the next day and we would definitely get tickets to get in. Finally I found accommodation that was a lot cheaper than everything I had seen. We arrived there quite late and realised why it had free rooms. The area seemed a little unsafe with big groups of people hanging around on corners! We were fine though and only stayed there three nights.
Our first full day in Orlando we went to MegaCon and Boggy Creek Air Boat Tour. MegaCon was a big comic and sci fi program convention where you could meet cartoonists, authors and actors from different TV programs. You had to pay to see the actors so we didn't bother with that! I just enjoyed seeing all the effort that people had made in to making and picking their costumes. Some people were keeping track of how many people took photographs
with them so Stu and I thought we would get in on the action and get some pictures with people. My favourite outfit was a guy that had dressed up as an elf from Lord of The Rings.
We then drove to Boggy Creek where we took an air boat ride around the lake. Here, we saw alligators, turtles and birds native to the everglades. After the ride, we also got the chance to hold an alligator. I expected it to feel really scaly but it actually felt really smooth. I know now why people make things out of alligator skin even, although I don't agree with it!
The next day, we went to Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. We went on some brilliant rides at Island of Adventure and went to Harry Potter World. The Harry Potter rides were brilliant. My favourite was the one where you are in a chair and you have a screen in front of you. You actually feel like you are there playing quidditch! Our favourite ride at Universal was the log flume. People could pay to shoot you with water on the way round and for some reason we got
soaked! The drop at the end was huge which meant there was a large splash at the end! Thank goodness it was a really hot day and we brought a towel! We then went for some food in Simpsons Land. We ate at Krusty Burger and had a drink at Moe's Bar! We really wanted to try a donut from the Simpsons but we were too stuffed...maybe next time!
The next four days we spent and Disney World. The first park we went to was Animal Kingdom. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this park. The rides, as an adult, were a bit poop and the safari was pretty rubbish too. It wasn't real enough for me and we felt the animals didn't get enough space to roam around.
The next park we went to was Epcot. Again, this park wasn't the best and the rides for me weren't as good as I would've liked. There was an area that were named after different countries in the world. They had different buildings you would find in that country and food places that also sold native dishes. We went to Japan and ate in a restaurant there as we love Japanese
food. I had some sashimi and vegetables and I felt so much more healthier than I had felt all week as America isn't a place for super healthy food unfortunately.
The following day, we went to Magic Kingdom. Here we had a photo with Woody and Jesse- had to be done at Disney! There were a few good rides here but the best part was the parades and the fireworks at the end of the day. We waited for the electric parade where floats and characters where illuminated with lights and music played. This was followed by the Cinderella castle being lit up with different lights and images projected onto it to depict different Disney stories. Disney music was also played alongside the image show that I loved singing along to. There was then a fireworks show that went with more Disney music. The best part was when a firework was shot up that looked like a star and the music 'Wish upon a star' played alongside it. Magical! I felt like a little child!
Our last day in Orlando was spent at Hollywood Studios. This was quite a small park that had some really good rides. We
met Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc who were really scared by our scary faces haha.
Next stop Charleston to stay with my friend, Nicole, from Leeds.
Hope everyone is well back home xxx
