A True Princess..
..the things you do to see your kids smile.. For our final day in Orlando started out by getting into the packing. Thank goodness for packing cells. We arrived with 2 back packs, one containing a third pack and are leaving with our original two packs, the empty extra and a handy piece of luggage from Timberland all comfortably filled.
Late morning, satisfied we had enough packing receptacles headed back for a last few hours at the Magic Kingdom... Weather was good and Caitlin was wearing her brand new Princess dress that she and Sandy had purchased from Disney Enterprises last night. Very cliche but a certain little girl thought it was very special to walk around the Magic Kingdom dressed as a princess.
Staff and characters get into it also...bowing and curtseying to the princesses (she was not the only one, trust me...). As we had done pretty much all we had intended to do here, barring those one or two things that were closed for renovation and Space Mountain crashed this morning... so we took a last whirl on Buzz Lightyear - and yes this time the cannons were functioning properly and the scores came out the right way...competition was fierce and my driver was more
Main entrance..
..to the Magic Kingdom...again, and again, and again...de ja vu can be a real bitch! interested in shooting her mother and brother than giving us a shot at the real targets...psycho princess!!
Revisited the pineapple place and indulged again and then headed round to Pirates of the Caribbean (or Pirates of the Cabibeban as Caitlin says) but that was suffering technical difficulties temporarily so Sandy and Caitlin went to see the fiaries but changed their mind and ended up back in the haunted house while Reubs and I had a shootout in Frontierland and then caught Huck's raft across to Tom Sawyers Island...and this was interesting because there was not one automated ride or special effect it was an island with a mine, a tunnel and a cave as well as a bouncing bridge and other 'boys own' stuff like a log fort with rifle ports and rifles that do nothing but go bang when you pull the trigger but Reubs loved it, raved about it, charging around through tunnels, clambering over forts was brilliant fun and had to drag him back to the raft to go meet his mother.
Finished off the day with a last turn on the Pirates of the Caribbean - still very good, even second time, and then
Like the song said..
.."down on Main Street"..points for whoever can name the band! headed off.
And now time to address what may or may not be an urban legend...child kidnappings in Disneyworld...we discussed this the other day and both agreed that despite the fact there are large, unwieldly crowds there was never an occasion where we feared for the children or had any concern at all about the actual environment...there are risks, the most notable being the possibility of an out of control mobility scooter careering through the crowd. There are no notices, no obvious security, no mention anywhere of any issue with children getting snatched. While most urban legend has some event at its inception to promote it...our experience is that personal safety is not a special issue for children. Keep'em close - it is a family event anyway - and should not be any problems.
Sandy is having a couple of hours at the Orlando Mall and we will pick her up a little later in the evening.
Keeping it short as packing to finish...at this stage the fibre optic Christmas Tree ain;t making the cut... sad really, grown quite accustomed to it and finds it soft constantly changing neon tones strangely settling...or maybe its the prozac!
Back to Buzz..
..in line for the Buzz Lightyear ride..the boy getting himself psyched for the challenge! Didn't help..is it wrong to take such pleasure at scoring more points than your 8 year old son on a fairground attraction? No, no it isn't! Three weeks in Orlando has not been too long but four weeks would have been...three weeks has made it more relaxed and an actual vacation rather than a military style operation to accomplish everything in every theme park.
