Miami
By far the best-known city in Florida, Miami is a gorgeous tropical city. Palm trees are everywhere and the temperature never rarely dips below balmy. The Hispanic origins nearly of two thirds its population make Spanish the main language in most areas.
Miami Beach is actually a city on its own, located on a long slender island. It is linked to Miami by four main causeways.
South Beach is the best known area of Miami Beach, made popular through the TV show Miami Vice. The most striking feature of South Beach is its famous Art Deco Historic District - over 800 buildings within a small area, all in the same streamlined architectural style, painted in pastel shades and lit with brilliantly coloured neon lights.
Ocean Drive is a street in South Beach which is undoubtedly the trendiest part of town, the place to see and to be - a magnet at day and night.
Little Havana is a colourful district with a distinctly Latin atmosphere and a strong Cuban-American community. It is famous as the cultural and political capital of Cuban Americans.
Calle Ocho is ideal for stopping at one of the numerous coffee bars and restaurants
or street-side food stalls to try out some typical foods whilst listening to reggae, salsa, or merengue.
The Everglades
The
Everglades National Park is an untamed ecosystem unlike any other on earth. They are one of America’s last great wildernesses - a fascinating ecosystem which is home to exotic bird and animal life. There’s probably no better way to see all this than by taking an airboat ride. At
Everglades Alligator Farm I paid US$19 for an airboat ride and the chance to experience some of the most beautiful wetland scenery to be found in the USA.
