So, my last blog title was "Sunshine State", that is the correct name for the state between october till may, but in june till september its 'hurricane season'. In these months, there is not a lot of tourist in Florida. While the temperatures are still tropical, its just to humid which makes its cloudy. Its like Light-and-Thunder every day. However thats just from time-to-time, just like the rain... All with all it ain't bad, its just empty on the streets and not a lot of nightlife right now. While the prizes here are still high (higher then in Miami Downtown or in most of the cities i have visited), they do have a lot of discounts. Like yesterday I had a lunch at a restaurant for half prize and a free cocktail.. So for 9 dollar (normally it would be like 23 :P) I had a good meal, a nice cocktail and unlimited water serves... they do that well with the water ;).
So in chronologic order, the first night was quite boring. I didnt knew a lot of people yet and there isnt a real chat room in the hostel, like at the other hostels.. so just boring. On
Wednesday I went to the Everglades National State Park. The best description is 'swamp', however it is much more then that and much more english geographical and biological words then I could follow. The Everglades is very big, very wide and has a lot of water. Most of Florida's drinking water comes from the Everglades. However, it isnt deep at all. On the tour we went on a hoovercraft going over just a tiny bit of the Everglades. There were like a lot of plants and a lot of grass and on the water you had a lot of lelies and grass going just over the water. At a certain point we stopped on what looked like a big lake, but was exactly just 40cm deep water. The guide step out the hoovercraft and walked on the everglades. On the water you dont see a lot because of all the mud, but between the grass, bushes and trees you had some wildlife. I hoped to see like 10 different spieces, but we just saw 1 bird, 10 alligators and 5 baby-alligators... Ok, its still impressive to be on a hoovercraft and an alligator is just 10 centimeters next to the
boat... but for 55 dollar, I had hoped to see my variety.
However, there was also more alligators involved after the hoovercraft-tour, when we had an alligator-show. An guy was playing with one of the big alligators, taking his tail, opening the alligators mouth and put his hand in it.. Its was a nice presentator with a lot of humor, so it was satisfying to watch. We also were able to held an alligator for 2 dollar, so I payed for it, to have a nice memory picture.
After 3 hours, I was back in the hostel. I didnt really had a good idea what to do, so I went to the beach :P. It's nice to be on the beach, even when its cloudy, even when its rains. The water is really nice temperature. When I was sightseeing I didnt mind to be on myself.. but after an hour swimming in the atlantic ocean, it becomes boring. However I met some people from Massachusetts who were looking for fish. If you go far enough (like 20meters from coast) there will be some fish arround you. They will try to hide in the shadows so swimming beneath you.
It's really cool. So after finding the fish, we tried catching in with bare hands.. but as it sounds, its an impossible job :P. But its fun trying tho!
So after I came back in the hostel, I met some people. 2 french guys, 2 italian guys and a british girl. We were talking in the kitchen. Actually the italians guys were interested in going to the Kennedy Space Center, but they also wanted to try to go to the bahamas. So when I am writing this, I am still unsure. However, I already made a reservation for a rental car, so I am going to drive myself, and maybe some others to the Kennedy Space Center. The Tour would have been 190, renting a car and fueling will cost 100 and the entry fee is 40. So I already saving 50 dollars myself. I hope someone is coming with me, so we can share the car cost, which makes it actually 90 dollar or less when more are joining. But so far it doesnt seems going to. As the Italians are focussing on Bahamas and the receptionist girl cant get free from work. But a lot can change
in 1 night ;).
So after the kitchen talk and dinner I went upstairs and there were also an Brazilian, another French, German and an Austria guy (the females arent socializing here in the hostel it seems). With those people I went out, but like I started this blog.. ITs not the season, so there arent a lot of people/tourist, thus isnt that much nightlife. We walked arround, but Wednesday isnt a real good day, so Maybe tonight or Saturday.. Friday is Space-day for me, probably be exhausted after the 8-hour driving. Saturday will be an interested day, while it is Labor day in America. Suppose to be good. And Sunday.... checking-out day, catching-plane-day, going-home-day... Monday is arriving-day, jet-lag day. And Tuesday: the best man of the floor will makes its rentree, right SUMmers, hehe!
