Sunday, perfect weather for a drive from Silver Lakes (between Naples and Marco Island) to Chokoloskee Island to see where we will stay for a few days in February. It exceeded our expectations. SOOOO hoping we get a water site! After touring the RV Park, we had a great lunch of Cuban sandwiches at the Havana Cafe. Heading back to Silver Lakes we stopped in at "Stans" on Goodland Island. This place is almost always crazed and tons of fun. The celebration was made more so by Halloween! Home to Silver Lakes RV Park via Marco Island. There is no ambience to speak on a Marco "drive through." Like so ... read more

Fortunately things warmed up. In Lakeland we decided to go the back roads rather than shoot over on I-4 to I-75 in Brandon. This meant we were principally on US17 through Polk, Hardee and DeSoto counties, arguably Florida’s backcountry where not much happens other than what people identify as Florida’s main industry. We saw many orange groves with trees sagging with ripe orange fruit and were shaken about the road in our little Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible by semi-trucks full of the same. This back way turned out to ... read more

Naples, Florida. We signed up for a half day fishing trip on the Lady Brett out of Naples and to our amazement, Connie and Issac, the same couple from Maryland/Washington DC that we met on this charter last year were aboard. It was so much fun to see them and catch up. We caught lots of grouper that weren't "keepers" (because of size), but Issac and I hit it lucky and each caught a fish we could keep (and eat). Captain Paul filleted the hapless, headless grouper and we froze half and Wes cooked half of it (breaded lightly with panko) for dinner --- delish! It was worth it that I broke a ... read more
