We set sail for a wonderful 7 day cruise on Sat. March 7. I wore the cutest outfit, skirt w/ pink shirt and pink jacket and a big white hat!! It was a wonderful day for sailing. Upon take off, we missed the "sailing away" party, which featured lots of kids, characters and....well...lots of people. We opted to go to the back of the ship and watch Port Canaveral disapear from view. And we saw wild dolphies!! Or....dolphines. They were swimming along side the ship, wishing us a bon voyage. Dusk faded into night time and we had the opportunity to go to dinner and meet our wonderful staff and our dinner mates. Brian and Diana, which is funny cause Jay knew Diana from work!! And we met another older couple from Canada (I forgot their ... read more

February 10, Tuesday Jerry and Judy decided to split up with us and begin their trek back north, so Deb and I loaded up Bear and took off for Key West. We stopped once or twice for coffee, and after checking with the Ranger Station at Bahia Honda State Park, which was all reserved 11 months in advance, we ended up at the KOA campground on Sugarloaf Key, at about mile marker 20 something. A tent site was going for $60 a night, but if you spent $24 to become a KOA member, you got 10% off. I became a member, saved the $12 for two nights, and figured I'd use the membership again once or twice to make it worthwhile. The KOA had hot showers, laundromat, and a pool/hot tub, plus a nice little beach, ... read more

“When the heart of you heart opens, you can take deep pleasure in the company of the people around you … When you are open to the beauty, mystery, and grandeur of ordinary existence, you “get it” that it always has been beautiful, mysterious and grand and always will be.” Timothy Ray Millar I arrived in Key West on December 20th in the mid afternoon. I checked into the hostel and then quickly hit the street to enjoy the last few hours of daylight. After enjoying a “Sloppy Joe” at Sloppy Joe’s I headed back to the hostel to enjoy my first hot shower in a week. I decided to go out as it was a Saturday night and I hadn’t gone out on a Saturday night in awhile. I went down to the Green Parrot ... read more

Hello I knew it would be fast. Here we are on the 5th day of our holiday already! Our flight on Tuesday went without a hitch. Our room in Ft. Lauderdale was very nice and had a great breakfast. We are traveling in a Black Ford Explorer, so traveling is very comfortable for us all. Wednesday we headed south. Our first stop was at Coopertown, where we boarded an air boat for a 45 min. tour through the river of grass that is the Everglades. Scooter, our guide, was a good ole down south boy. Lives out on an island in the Everglades. Prefers the company of the birds and gators to the human kind. Saw several alligators. It is nesting time so the females are in hiding. Interesting fact, though we all were taught to ... read more

The Florida Keys, and Colorado Springs, Co. Travel Mate- John O'Boyle Six months on the road. This was my first travel, and a lot of other firsts as well. I was 18, full of ideals and nievity, after a year of looking for a way to begin my traveling dreams I met John and he invited me to go to Key West with him. I made you're average rookie mistakes, over packing, under funding, believing what dead heads said, yada yada. But John knew the ropes and after a month on the go in the Keys, I got it down. I spent most of my time in the keys in Key West, chilling on the beach and sitting on Duval st. sipping wine and watching people walk by. The rest of the time was spent camping ... read more

An excellent way to see Key West and also to find out a lot about the history was on the Conch Train Tour. Apparently in 1982 the islanders were getting fed-up with a blockade that was in place to stop smuggling so they declared themselves independent of the United Status and formed the Conch Republic. They even have their own flag, which you see all around the island. This is blue and has a pink conch shell on it and not to be confused with the rainbow flag, which is also prevalent all around the island and is the symbol of the gay community. One of the main industries in the past was called Wrecking and was basically the salvaging of cargo from all the ships the were wrecked around the Keys. There seemed to have ... read more

Today is our last full day in Key West. We started the day with breakfast at Pepe's, a local gourmet breakfast spot where we started with mimosas and fresh strawberries. After breakfast, we decided to play tourists of Key West. We walked into town and hopped on the World Famous Conch Train (Scott's mom would be proud). The kids were a little leary at first, but they really enjoyed it. The tour was an hour and a half and went all around old town Key West, which by the way is 2 miles by 4 miles (and has 250 liquor licenses). We went all through the old town, Bahama town, and seaport village. One of the highlights was seeing the southernmost point in the continental US. That point is 85 miles south of Brownsville, Texas. The ... read more
