One of the stupid things about life is Daylight Savings. And we got to experience it on this trip. Fortunately for us, we got to experience it during the first weekend of Spring Break instead of the last, so our bodies get a whole week to acclimatize to the new time before actually being back on a schedule. So we were expecting things to shift forward an hour. I will say that I had figured incorrectly about the time the sun would rise; I was thinking it would rise an hour earlier, but I was very happy to get another hour of darkness in the morning, since my body thinks it's time to get up as soon as it sees the sun. So that was a very pleasant surprise. What I was NOT expecting was for ... read more

My house is a disaster! I didn't think I had that much stuff until I started trying to put it all in boxes. Everything is everywhere and I can't find anything. Oh well, it will all work out eventually. Moving my electronic files to my new PC tablet is also an interesting adventure. I am not patient learning new technology at all. My friends Steve and Fred are going to stay at my house, my brother is going to store my furniture and my cats so everything is working out really well. My last day at work is Friday 5/17, so I have a few days to get my act together before my plane to London leaves. London!! My stomach just got all fluttery!... read more

... read more

This was one of our summer trips this year. We spent a couple of days at the Hollywood Beach Tower, in Hollywood Beach, FL. The location was great, just about 30 minutes from Miami. We had a lot of fun at beach, at the pool, driving around, having BBQ with friends at the hotel, also enjoying an Air Boat ride at Sawgrass Recreational Park searching for crocodiles! And you know what the best part was? and the best thing... we paid only half of what everyone else usually pays for!!!... read more

Our last day in Florida. After our late night, we still got up for sunrise since it was finally a clear day. We went back to the same beach where we had previously taken our “rainy day” photos. It was great to sit, relax, and enjoy the beautiful weather. Then we had to head back to pack and make our way to the airport for our afternoon flight.... read more

This was the day we planned to spend relaxing on the beach, and we woke up to a steady rain. When it was still raining in the afternoon, we decided to head to the beach anyways for some rainy day photos and video. Although it wasn’t how I would have planned it, we had a good time - we also had the beach all to ourselves! By the time we left, we were soaked and pretty chilly. A hot shower and warm clothes felt great. Then Pizza Roma for dinner and some of our Key West beer. And it was still raining…... read more

I was not supposed to go to Florida this year but a last minute opportunity came in, so i went for a 8 days quick trip. Temperature was much colder than usual: daytime temperatures were between 9 and 18 degrees Celsius, so not very good for swimming! But the cold brought some advantages: fishes died because of the cold when i visited the Florida keys, so i was able to pick some on the beach, just before they died and took pictures. Yes so good for me, but not for the fishes :-( Also, i visited the Big Cypress preserve, and most reptiles were sluggish, (16-18 degrees max), so it was alos good for pictures too. In a week, i go to Mexico, to visit Yucatan peninsula and Chiapas region. One spot in particular should be ... read more

We're all geared up, the boxes are stacked chest high, and the home looks like it never has before in anyone's memory. As we prepare for departure tomorrow, Savta Grace has been busy making sure every item is accounted for, that all our clothing is clean, and giving mementos to friends and family. Stan, Judy, and Savta will be taking to the skies for the ride home, leaving me with this opportunity to explore the lands between the wet Southeastern swamps and the vast fields of the Midwest, by car. What can I expect of this trip? Unusual stops, warm homes, verdant forests, steep mountains, rolling hills, welcoming arms, tasty dishes......... Davey... read more

This one is a little late coming but thanks to Chris and Barbara for sending out the pictures, so now at least there is something to post. Since it was Jennifer's birthday and C/B live close to the airport in Hollywood. Since we are heading up to a still cold Ohio I wanted to do something on the waterfront so we, Barbara and I, ended up on Nikki Marina at the Westin Diplomat. The whole thing was a surprise for Jennifer but she kind of figured it out when Chris spilled the beans in the morning, which was expected since I hadn't made it clear that it was a surprise for Jennifer. Plus, there is such a thing as doing too many surprises. The whole point of a surprise is for the surprise itself to be ... read more

The region of Miami to Fort Lauderdale is filled with all sorts of activities for all tastes. During my stay in Hollywood, I went to these places: A-Flamingo gardens: small zoo, with exhibits and very nice tropical gardens. Recommended. B-Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park, (previously called John U Loyd state park). Wild beaches, that stretches for a few kilometers. Nice place to look for shells. I actually found a big conch shell there at low tide. Many joggers actually go there and pick up shells as well, (to sell in stores???). There are places for boat access. Near of this, there's a dock where I fished and caught many small fishes. Saw parrot fish near the corals. Very recommended!! C-Butterfly gardens: Butterfly houses with gardens and light music. Relaxing and beautiful. It's quite small ... read more
