Million Dollars of fun..!!

Well I made my way from Grand Turk to Ft. Lauderdale on Wednesday. I planed this trip for a nice vacation away. I picked Ft. Lauderdale to spend a week. I really wanted to check out the city that I have flown into many times. I also wanted to look at a new possible job I have been researching the last couple months. The job is to get onto some private yachts. Ft. Lauderdale is one of the largest yachting cities in the world. So what a better place to start research.

So I flew from Grand Turk to Provo (still in the TCI). When I got to Provo we had a quick stop off and refuelled the plane. When we got back on the plane we were ready to leave when we had a passenger on the plane start yelling at the airline crew. It was all about that he didn’t want to move up his seat before flight. Anyway it held us up about ½ hour and they took him off the plane. I always hear about stories like that but it’s the first time I have experienced it first hand.

Once we got to Ft. Lauderdale at 6:00 pm I had no place booked to stay. So I decided to go to the office of a crew agency accommodations that a friend in Grand Turk told me about. So I walked up to the door and asked for a place to stay. Well at the Neptune House they were very nice. They hooked me up with a place to stay for 160 for the week!! It was a hostel with young people looking for jobs on the yachts. So it was perfect for me to get into and figure out about this industry. There’s 11 people living in this big house which has everything from kitchen, 3 bathrooms, big living room. It was the best place I could have picked and cheaper than anything else in Florida.

Well the next day I woke up early and walked around Ft. Lauderdale just getting my directions around Ft. Lauderdale. I walked up to the beach which is a good 5 miles away from the house. That was the first time I seen the huge yachts “mega yachts”. I walked up the piers just look at these ships. WOW. Amazing.!!! After that I went down to the main beach and laid on the beach. Later that night we had a big BBQ at the house where we went and picked up fresh steaks from the store.

The next day I went to the crew office and asked for some Day work. Day work is when you work on a ship or yacht for the day and get experience and money. So I got my first job on a ship I was so excited and nervous. My first ever ship was a 208 foot mega yacht. It had 5 floors, jet skis, Jacuzzi, and dive compressor. It had everything except a helicopter. I worked as a engineer day worker. My job was basic help out the engineers and clean. It was a bit more grunt work then I’m use to. But the money was great and they feed me 3 times a day by a professional chef on board. As much steak, salad, and food that you want.

Well I worked there for 2 days just gaining experience and how these ships run and work. So after my final day of work on Friday me and 4 guys form the house went out on the town to party. We went down to Ft. Lauderdale Beach Road were its just packed with bars and bars. It was a great night we went out all night getting home around 3 am . Great Night.!!! Well my next plan is to go to West Palm Beach, Florida and Palm Beach. Palm Beach is the rich area of Florida. I plan to leave on Sunday and stay for 2 days. To be Continued…
