Log 2

After a very rough 8 day crossing from Southampton to New York on the Queen Victoria where we only had one night of complete calm, we arrived on Thursday 13 January to the sight of snow around New York. We had to wait a long time to disembark with Cunard blaming US customs but when we finally reached customs we went through quite quickly. We did a tour of New York which was excellent. A super guide who was very informative.
We got to the cruise terminal only to find an horrendous queue to get through security and registration but fortunately we were able to go through quicker having asked for assistance because of Nicky’s back.
Wonderful to get on board and find our stateroom is so well appointed with loads of storage space. It feels very comfortable with our welcome champagne already waiting for us on ice!
We finally got a drink and a bite for late lunch and felt much better after that. We unpacked and still have room for more even allowing for having 6 cases with us.
Dinner was lovely and we had a fabulous view of the firework display that was done for all three queens leaving New York together. We haven’t seen anything like it before, they were spectacular.
A nice relaxing drink after dinner and then writing blog ready to post once we have got connected to internet.
It is so lovely knowing we are on the move and not rolling all over the place. Really lovely now with a calm sea on our way to Fort Lauderdale. We have booked to do the Everglades on Saturday afternoon. Looking forward to this

Sailors ahoy!
Hope the seas are smoother for you on the next leg of your journey to the antipodes. Watch out for the creepy crawlies in the Everglades - they'll be good practice for meeting the real thing in the wilds of OZ!!!!! Enjoy every minute of your wonderful holiday - there's another bottle of bubbly on ice waiting for your touchdown in Hobart. Chatted to Bill and Leonie - they are really looking forward to seeing you in Tas. Cheers and keep safe - Barry & Gill
