Australian Embassy
The Australian Embassy which coincidentally is next but one to our hotel
We walked down Rhode Island Road to Connecticut Ave (past the Australian Embassy next door) to connect with the yellow loop bus and got off at the Washington Hilton Hotel (where Ronald Reagan was shot) to transfer to the green loop tram.
The tram went past the National Zoo, to Washington National Cathedral and then along Embassy Row before coming back to the Hilton.
We re-boarded the yellow loop bus and went through Georgetown again and then transferred onto a blue loop again to Arlington and the Pentagon. After this we transferred to a bus that took us to Union Station where we could buy our Amtrak tickets for Monday and have some lunch. The station is huge with a big food hall and we ended up having lunch at Taco Bell – a Burrito Supreme for Debbie and a Cantina Bowl as advertised on tv for me (rice, black beans, lettuce, grilled chicken, corn salsa, tomato salsa and guacamole).
We caught a red loop bus and got off at the US Capitol building where we did a tour that was very interesting. You have to queue to go through Security and you cannot take in any food

or liquid whatsoever. Then you queue in the Emancipation Hall and are given a guide and audio headphones, there is no wandering on your own. The tour started in the rotunda and then we went into the old House of Representatives and down into the Crypt and we were allowed into the Exhibition Hall, which houses some artefacts and models of the building.
Finally, we caught a red loop bus and got off at the closest stop to our hotel and got a taxi home from there.

Washington - Day 27
Hm, healthy lunch - at Taco Bell; can this really be true! The Capitol building looks very impressive; the interior of the Rotunda is stunning (and the ceiling is almost as good as the hotels/casinos in Las Vegas).
