Let the Rally Begin!

This is where we ended up seeing the show.
Dear Reader,

What can I say about the rally to restore sanity and/or fear?

We were less than 100 yards from the stage and less than 50 yards from the nearest Jumbotron screen. We walked down to the mall a little before 10 AM and just happened to get one of the best spots available. It was awesome! The rally took all afternoon but time seemed to fly by. There was great music from John Legend, Cat Stevens, Ozzy Ozbourne, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow. It was Awesome!!

Many of the rally goers were dressed in costume. There were also hundreds of hilarious signs. The rally was planned so that the crowds would be entertained by lots of lead up material from past episodes while they were waiting for the show to start.

For me the most mind blowing part of the event was when the guys from the cable TV show "Mythbusters" were on stage. Up until that time we had been standing and watching TV clips on the screens while people were filing in. In the crowd you can only see maybe 5 or 6 row ahead of you and about the same number behind. The

mythbuster guys had us do a series of waves and they showed the aerial view of the crowd on the screens. When those live pictures from above came on there was an audible gasp from everyone! None of us knew that the crowd stretched solidly from one end of the Mall to the other! A cheer rose, the first of many, at the sight of so many like minded individuals in one place peacefully celebrating reasonableness. CBS News has estimated the crowd from aerial photos to be 215,000. I think thats about right.

It was one of the best days of my life. The rally was a celebration of hope. It was also a refutation of the small minded beliefs that isolate us as citizens of this great country. It was a wonderful experience. I literally have not been able to stop saying;

"Best Rally EVER!!!"
