Plan is simple, we are leaving Washington Dc early this morning and we need to be at our hotel in Newark, next to New York, not too late! I'm not an engineer, but I love to see and experience amazing human construction. I would drive just to ride a fun bridge! The drive from Washington DC to New York can be a very urban one, or a pure ride on highways and paying few tolls. Or has it to be? Today, we are taking the long way around....the countryside way! Once out of Washington DC, the first important place is the Chesapeak bridge. I cannot stop around to take pictures...so you get the best we could. The bridge is a double one, it's huge, it's actually beautiful. We paid the pretty reasonable one way toll. Few ... read more

Today is Jody's turn for the pilgrimage to the place of her childhood. Unlike my returns to Lowell, MA which have happened every few years, Jody has not been back to Dover, DE since she was 15. The changes in Lowell have happened gradually as I notice when I return each time. To Jody, the changes in Delaware are dramatic as it has been over 35 years since she has been back. Since Jody was excited about her visit and didn't sleep well last night, we were able to get an early start this morning , so we had breakfast and were on the road by 7:30. The first couple of hours of the ride were really beautiful. We were traveling through southeast Pennsylvania farm country and most of the farms looked either Amish or Mennonite. ... read more

Leaving Poquoson We started early with pancakes and coffee. Once Tracy showed up, we packed up and headed on the road. The first leg of our journey lasted to 7 –eleven for coffee. Then there was a discussion about chicken buses. See the blog post here for an account. On a related note, I was flipping through my homebrew bible, The New Complete Joy of Hombrewing, by Charlie Papazian, and found a receipe for Cock Ale. Not kidding. If you can find it, please, please read it. The descripiton on the treatment of the rooster is quite amusing considering the wording. 16 Mile, Georgetown, Delaware http://16milebrewery.com/ The brewery is a fairly nondescript building, and I would not have known it was a brewery except for t... read more
