Dear All, A gps will take you only so far before one needs to turn on one’s brain and navigate a little further. Such was the case as I drove within a few blocks of Michell College's campus and my gps system said I was there. I was not, but I eventually did get there on time. The lesson has been learned—never rely solely on technology. All three schools visited today are located in the town of New London. MITCHELL COLLEGE Mitchell College is a four year college which has both a post graduate high school program (Thames Academy), and a [View Full Entry]

Sages ravine is a magical place of waterfalls and deep pools, old birch and pine, sun and shadow. It defines the border of Connecticut and Massachusetts, high up in the Taconic mountains. It can be reached via the AT, or, fittingly, on Paradise Lane... [View Full Entry]

Great White Alligator
Great White Alligator
Alex and the white Alligator at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk.
Today we left Middletown DE for Hartford, CT with a stop on Norwalk. I have to say that we were making pretty good time though PA and NJ until we came to a grinding halt at the GW Bridge in NYC. From the bridge it was slow going. Alex and I stopped in Norwalk to visit the Maritime Aquarium. The aquarium has a lot of species local to Long Island Sound. They also had one of 44 albino alligators in existence. I am pretty sure this is NOT native to Long Island Sound. http://www.maritimeaquarium.org/home.html After an early dinner on the Norwalk [View Full Entry]

Lunch in Norwalk

Planning with Emily There's now less than a week left until our departure, so we finally decided to get our act together and figure out what we want to do in Italy/France/Germany/Holland/England. We're still waiting to figure out the hostel situation in Berlin and the flight (or boat ride) from Amsterdam to London. My books (Count of Monte Cristo, Tom Jones and Crime and Punishment) arrived along with the data chip for my borrowed over seas phone. These are fascinating details, but I'll leave it at that for now. [View Full Entry]

Hey! Just wanted everyone to know that I'm safely home in the US of A. I'm getting settled into my dorm in New Haven for my summer teaching job. I'm so sick of packing and unpacking, it's ridiculous, but I'm grateful for the morning jetlag, so I can get up and get things accomplished before breakfast. Just so you all know, there are more blog posts coming down the pipeline on the Joe/Sarah blog. We still have to share the end of Madrid, and a surprise city that wasn't expected. So be looking for that in the coming days. Otherwise, I'm [View Full Entry]

I can never tell anyone the events that transpire during my morning commute. Only the broken white stripes on the asphalt of I-91 South prevent me from drifting into an adjacent lane. The commute is so stress free, I chuckle at traffic reports on WFAN out of New York City. I listen with anticipation as the updates are announced: It is “only a forty-five minute delay on the George Washington Bridge. Traffic is barely moving onto the inbound Lincoln and Holland tunnels, expect backup well through New Jersey and most of Pennsylvania.” I, on the other hand, become highly irritate [View Full Entry]

Welcome to this summer’s essays entitled SUBCONTINENTAL DRIFT. SUBCONTINENTAL DRIFT will depict my journey starting in Delhi and moving on to the far Western Indian state of Rajasthan. From there, who knows? A traveler’s itinerary should never be set in stone. For me, that has always been the case. The purpose of these essays is to document what South Asia feels like through my eyes and ears. They are raw, unfiltered, and very subjective. Moreover, they serve a purpose well beyond a replacement for sending postcards every three or four days. Let me explain what that mea [View Full Entry]
