Although I have spent the past five months preparing for this journey - as each day passes I grow a little more anxious and nervous about my trip. I was selected to travel with a group of teachers form around the United States with the Asia Society. Our destination: China. Which part, you ask - all of it. 32 days of intense travel. Location: Crossing from Massachusetts Border into CT on 84. Blogger: Katie So we decided to put in Jen's CD she made for DJ called "DJ's RoadMix". It's an awesome mix. It's been hilarious to hear DJ giggle when he realizes which song it is. Jen put "Hip Hop Hooray" on the CD and quite frankly this was a hazard too our health. The mixes that we've listened to so far from Jen and Kirsten are pretty amazing. I'm really a huge fan of a good mix. It's a skill really. So thanks for your thoughtfulness, it must have taken some serious time. Fairfield Reststop Katie Location: Fairfield, CT Reststop Blogger: DJ Well we just pulled off at a rest area outside of fairfield CT. I'm still doing all the driving and I probably will be until after we get though NYC. My sister has explained that she'll likely freak out trying to deal with stop and go traffic leaving NYC during rush hour. Probably a good point. So finally, sorry about that! My flights: awful! My connection from Washington to New York, first was delayed (few times) than finally we did board, had to wait to taxi to the runway, finally at the runway, we had to wait again, and because we were pushed back all the time they canceled the flight...I ended up 'sleeping' at a couch on the airport, with bright light above me, and stupid sticky people who wanted to lay down all of a sudden on the benches around me..?!?! After leaving PA, we stopped at Prevost bus in New Jersey for a maintenance check and a place to leave Coco while we visited Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Ferry to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty - $29; two hot dogs at Ellis Island - $5.90; $0 charges at Prevost Hospital - PRICELESS! The Ellis Island exhibits were fascinating. It’s hard to imagine the hardships faced by our immigrant grandparents so many years ago. We climbed up to the observation platform of Lady Liberty and viewed the Manhattan skyline.
