Family Time My time in Connecticut was very relaxing, with very limited driving. My friend lives in a nice home shared with his sister's family along a small river, from which we could paddle in a canoe (a very relaxing, although hot, activity) but was not recommended for swimming (because the bottom is very gushy and the water is cafe au lait brown...alligators, piranhas, or something devious surely lurks below in the depths). We had the small dog Milo with us, who had gone for a swim previously, unintentionally, of course. I though we should put the doggie life jacket on [View Full Entry]

At long last, I have escaped New York City. This place grabbed me and spun me around like a roller coaster. It's easy for me to see how people fall in love with the place, as there is everything and more importantly, everyone there. I met all sorts of people, which of course happens in every city, but even *unique-er* here. As it happens, the blog I wrote about the steam explosion was a "featured blog" on xanga.com, so my email was flooded with comments and still is. The day after the steam explosion I did nothing all day but think [View Full Entry]

Short one: I just came back yesterday from the 5 day bike trip..it was in the end 144 miles (230km) You can not compare it to biking in Holland: hills, humidity(over 80%), more hills, high temperature (2 days over 32 C), and more hills. Besides that we had a big group: 18 kids with 5 counselors, and that was especially in the beginning an easy irritation thing for me..not listening, dangerous passing, no communication, not listening again, whining, etc. And all that besides the hills ...We slept in between in churches, as we are from a episcopal camp, that was [View Full Entry]

Its been a while since I've written anything... I have been here at my Grandma's house in Stratford, Connecticut, since July 4th. My ride out of Quebec (beginning July 3rd) was very very nice, Northern Maine is stunningly beautiful. I had sort of assumed that the entire east coast was overpopulated, hence everyone going west. Not so, there's hardly anyone up there. I took a state road (201) halfway through the state and ended up camping a night at a trailer place for the price of "whatever's in my pocket", a deftly negotiated fee that ended up being $13, when [View Full Entry]

Singing around the kitchen table
Singing around the kitchen table
Very nice evening entertainment!
Ann here -- the title for this entry about sums the weekend up. Mary, Katherine, and I went to the Westchester Mall in White Plains, NY yesterday to do a bit more shopping ('cuz 5 days in NYC wasn't enough ;) ). Anyway, the mall is huge and beautiful. It's much like the Roseville Galleria back home... but, about 3 times bigger... and the shops are like many of the ones you would see in NYC (Tiffany & Co., Dooney & Bouke, Gucci, etc). The shops in NYC tend to be crowded and in disarray... except for some of the [View Full Entry]

At the center of it all

Ann here -- a trip would not be complete without losing something... lost my cell phone on the train somewhere between here and Manhattan on the evening of the 4th (after the fireworks)... I've had the "pleasure" of learning how the lost and found works... actually, Phil and Mary knew (from experience) how it worked... everything that's left on the train is boxed up and sent to Grand Central Terminal. I reported it missing on the morning of the 5th... Phil is going to be the Dear brother that he is and attempt to find it next week in the box [View Full Entry]

Hi!! Has been a while I know, I am truly sorry (..not..) So a lot have been going on past few weeks. First I did some more cleaning, met up with more and more people who were coming up to work. I left on a Friday with Daisy to go to another camp for Wilderness First Aid. That was heavy and a bit boring, heavy because there were speaking in hot expensive English all the time, eg. Bowl movement, respiratory...but hey I've got it. On our ride home we and Tracy filled in a folder with over the top/far from [View Full Entry]
