The next day the 22 of June we headed back from Boston to Colchester. Ryan took me for a walk around Boston, and I got to see some of the older architecture in Boston.
We finished off Boston with
Faneuil Hall which is generally nice and happening in summer except when its raining. Well it was raining but it was still quite nice to walk around in.
After driving back to Boston Ryan took break whilst I went for a bike ride around Colchester and down to the Babcock Pond wildlife management area. It was quite nice and peaceful and I stayed there for a little while before eventually heading back to Ryan’s and to a delicious dinner courtesy of Jan.
The 23 of June Ryan took me to
Gillette’s castle, built by William Hooker Gillette, in 1919. Gillette was, amongst other things a famous actor and actually the original Sherlock Holmes.
The park grounds around Gillette’s castle are also nice to wander around in. We did this first, we went down to the lake and looked at the boats going around about. On the way back to look at the castle we were
met with a deer in the wild about 5 meters away. Ryan was super excited - he said it was really rare to see the deer in the wild this close.
We watched the deer for a little while before I tried to go over and pat it. Eventually when I was about 2 meters away the deer calmly looked at me and then walked away. Ryan was still in surprise how tame the deer was.
Ryan then drove me to Devil’s Hopyard State Park which was also in Haddam. That was really pretty with all these waterfalls and this black snake. Are snakes poisonous in the states?
Anyways it was here I realized how weak I was when I couldn’t even do a pull up. Shame and I call myself a rock climber!
Afterwards Ryan took me to get delicious ice cream at Salem Valley Ice Creams. I got a delicious blueberry ice cream. It was so good and so creamy. If you are passing through I would really recommend a stop over just to try this ice cream:) All in all a very successful and fulfilled day.
