Sunday, 14 June (NYC KOA to Mystic & Boston/Cape Cod KOA): We left the NYC KOA around 9am, heading for Mystic, Connecticut before our next home base at the Boston/Cape Cod KOA in Middleboro (or Middleborough depending on where you look). The trip to Mystic was pretty much uneventful, not even getting GPS lost. Our first stop was Mystic Pizza for lunch at this famous eatery from the movie by the same name. Mystic is very picturesque, but doesn’t offer much in historic or other sights, although the traffic was pretty heavy. We shared a Greek salad and a Mediterranean pizza, both of which were quite good and inexpensive. I even got another flattened penny for my growing collection. After lunch and a brief stroll, including a stop to watch the drawbridge open and close, we got back on the road to the next KOA. We drove through four states today, including Rhode Island, which you might call a “one horse state”, since it is only 40 miles or so across! Arriving at the Boston/Cape Cod KOA around 4pm, we were a bit disappointed. It’s not small, but it seemed empty and a bit dreary, with little going on. They do

have a heated pool and all the other amenities you expect from a KOA, but nothing special, except a bocci ball court for which the young hostess had no idea where the balls were. After unloading and resting a bit, we located a Wal-Mart about 10 or 15 miles away and bought some fruit, Dr. Pepper, and ice. We also rented a movie called Defiance that turned out to be quite good. It was about four Jewish brothers from western Russia and how they heroically saved hundreds of Jews persecuted by the invading Nazis. Dinner was chili and a chicken sandwich from Wendy’s along with fruit, which we ate while watching the movie in our heated Kabin, since it was getting into the lower 50s! Tomorrow we’re off to nearby Plymouth and Cape Cod for the day.
