Back to our hiking boots. In the 'rockies' we stayed in the town of Estes which is already about 2,500 metres above sea level. This time we got our own cabine and after 3 months on the road we were able to prepare our own meals for five days. That was a real break from cafes and restaurant food. It is one of the most beautiful regions we saw in the US. It was not early spring but flowers in the fields were still blooming and there are lakes and waterfalls everywhere. We did long walks everyday and the biggest challenge we took was climbing Mount Ida which is about 4000 metres high. It was our test to see how we will cope with the altitude in Bolivia. It went almost fine. Nevertheless we were able ... read more

These past few days, we've been camping in Rocky Mtn. National Park. On our way out of Denver, we stopped at the SAME Cafe. SAME stands for: So All May Eat. The employees and volunteers serve you food and you pay what you can or you work an hour for a meal. (Comment from Mary - I read about this cafe a few years ago and really wanted to visit it. I was so inspired, and would love to start something like this. Check it out at www.soallmayeat.org) Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park was a lot quieter than Yellowstone. Vanessa and I saw a program on Elk which was cool because we learned that in the winter the male Elk's antlers grow up to an inch a day! We did a fair amount of shopping in the ... read more

18th May, 2009. Idaho Springs Up and back up to Georgetown this morning, Georgetown is a Ski resort and an old mining town. We wandered the streets and took in the history of the pace, it is one of the only old surviving gold towns, most were burnt down, many old buildings dating back to the early 1800's. Then off to tour a Silver mine - great experience. Only the two of us on the tour, the owner takes you back into the mountain about 500ft, through the tunnels. This mine was closed down, but there is still plenty of Silver (which is worth about $14 an ounce), lead, gold etc still there. A geologist has stated that only about 13 - 20% of the gold has been mined out of these hills so there is ... read more

One of my favorite things to do is take a day to go visit my favorite place on Earth. Here I get the freedom to relax and enjoy myself. It is truly the best place on Earth, because all I need is a lunch, my camera, and a jacket, and in the summer a fishing pole. I walk around Sprague Lake and the little beaver ponds that lead into the lake. In the summer I fish here and in the winter I try to walk in snow that is up to my wast while wearing tennis shoes. I also like walking around the morain and up by Fall River Road. I also base most of my photography from Rocky Mountain National park. This is an amazing place to be come summer, fall, winter, and spring. There ... read more

There's no such thing as "getting it out of your system". A taste of Amsterdam wasn't enough. A glimpse of Colorado wasn't enough. I want everything that this big bad world has to throw at me. A part of me wants the stability and comfort of the post college life that all my friends lead. I want the cute apartment with the IKEA and garage store furnishings. I want the semi-fulfilling 9-5 job with Free Lunch Fridays. I want the little herb garden in a sunny kitchen window. I want the camaraderie of commiserating about being a poor post-grad over margaritas. But a bigger part of me wants to kick that part in the butt. This part of me wants the fine coating of sand of a Caribbean beach. Creamy dessert in a French Villa. Snowflakes ... read more

So my favorite place I have traveled to was high up in the mountains. we(my friend Jean and I)went to a off road trail way up in Cole creak canyon in golden Colorado. Its not real in golden its more off to the side of golden. Anyway we went up there around the end of spring after a hard rain. I’ve had my permit for about a year now was driving my truck (85 GMC jimmy). I had decided to go mudding after the last hard rain of spring about for month before this trip when there was like two feet of snow every ware. Once I had reached the trail I had to get out a turn on the 4x4 to even fallow the trail. About half way up the trail we decided to set ... read more

While walking down a dusty old road I noticed something off in the distance. It was a mine. Little did I know I had just stumbled upon one of the greaatest discoveries I've ever even imagined. Being a normal curious human being i walked down the hill to the mine to go check it out. What I found was amazing. A ghost town. Not just that but real silver and a billion of the coolest looking nick-nacks just scattered on an old table in an even oldr building. Later I would find out that I found a lost silver mine form the 1800's. After I left the first building i began to search the area for anything else. What I found next was an old rail car full of crucibles and behind that a rail car ... read more
