Recently, my teenage daughter begged me to visit the Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison which turned out to be a great experience for us. I drove my daughter and two of her friends to the museum. After carefully maneuvering my van into the tight space of the small parking lot that was as tiny as the museum itself. I didn't think much was there because of the small building visible from the road; however, I was deceived as the true action takes place outside that small building. Having limited time, we opted to purchase tickets for the tour on the museum passenger van. Driving the only vehicle allowed up the private road, our knowledgeable tour guide shared facts and dinosaurs. Occasionally we disembarked to see a variety of dinosaur tracks and fossils in their natural setting. While ... read more

After a good night of sleep (each kid only up once and everyone sleeping in a little in the morning) we were ready to pack up and hit the road again. It took us awhile to get everything in order and back into the car. We didn't actually leave Grand Junction until about 11 am. Sarah rode in the backseat with the boys so she could help Paul with homework for the first 2 hour stretch of our drive to Edward, Co. We enjoyed our picnic lunch at a rest area in Edward before driving into the Denver area. Levi napped and Paul played in the backseat while we drove. We arrived in Morrison, CO with just a few minutes to enjoy the indoor aspects of Dinosaur Ridge. The directions we followed got us to the ... read more

Distance: 9 miles Difficulty: moderate-difficult The end of April brought a continuation of the warm and windy conditions that had been in place for most of the spring. I finally found out that the weather pattern was due to the La Nina water phenomenon that had taken root in Pacific. This event was (according to one meteorologist at KUSA/9 News in Denver) the reason why we were seeing so much wind and why the mountains were still getting pummeled by blizzards. Whatever the case was, I knew I needed to get in a longer hike in preparation for my trip out to Moab that was coming in just a few days. Mt. Falcon was the toughest and longest hike that I had done up to this point in the season. Mt. Falcon Park is yet another ... read more

So on Sarah's day off, we were off to Red Rocks Amphitheatre. All I have to say is: COOL!!! Ok, well, I guess I have a bit more to say that just that. The Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rock formation that has been turned into an awesome concert venue. I will definitely have to see a concert there next summer when I fly back into Denver. It's not used for concerts in winter because of the snow, but the park is open and it is beautiful. The contrasts of red, white and green against the blue sky are just fantastic. Then it was off to a late lunch in Morrison, a tiny town just outside Red Rocks. We went to the Morrison Inn, and I have to recommend their nacho plate...it came in a heaping ... read more
