Our final week of rehearsal has proven to be incredibly productive. We have identified our remaining areas of focus, and have shared presentations of important facts on places where we will be visiting, performing, and sight-seeing. We have also done a bit of research on competing choirs participating in the International Choral Competition Ave Verum. It has been a tremendous week of growth and bonding and we are on track for a spectacular 10 days of European performing! Great work, everyone! Special thanks to Dr. Darrough for his very insightful clinicing commentary and to Melissa at Cultural Tour Consultants for setting up an incredible tour! I will be posting our promotional video, produced by Anthony Haro, in my next blog-post. Just a few days, now! Dr. B... read more

I must say, the Pre-tour Concert was exquisite! (in spite of the fact that I had everything firmly memorized except the concert order:) but then, I think the chant sounded surprisingly fine up an entire whole step!) This group is really starting to bond and develop a consistent sound, and are quite well set for a trip and competition of this caliber. While I do not philosophically believe in competitions being the final goal when it comes to musical performance, they are certainly a means by which we gain a higher level of performance and artistry... (but secretly, I really want to place in this competition!) ...and so, Prima Voce, the real fun begins! We leave two weeks from today for our great adventure, on what will be a groundbreaking event for the UNC Choral Program! ... read more

May 25th 2011

Well it's now two days until I leave on my journey. I've been crazy busy trying to get everything taken care of here before I leave... I'm doing laundry, writing thank you notes from graduation (41 of them...), cleaning my room, going on picnics where a four-year old girl (see photo of Callie) punches me in the face several times, making important telephone calls to President Obama, and so many other things. All that I have left to do is pack... and you can tell that I am stalling because I decided to write my second blog entry instead. One of the main dilemmas I am having is what kind of gift should I get for the Sasso family? I want something American, not extremely expensive, not easily breakable, and something that they probably do not ... read more

Hey everybody! For those of you who do not know me, my name is Stan DeVore. Or Bryan DeVore. Whatever. It's pretty much the same thing. My full name is Stanley Bryan DeVore but people call me by different names. So you can call me whatever you'd like. My nickname for the purpose of the blog is "Goofy Stan". Just so you know. But anyways, the purpose of this blog is to track my trip to Italy from May 27th, 2011 to June 27th, 2011. There is no guarantee that I will be posting an entry every single day (because I am not sure of the access I will have there), but I will try. I am sorry to disappoint you if I do not. But... if you are going to cry about it, you can ... read more

19th May, 2009 Travel to Greeley, Colorado Left Idaho Springs and travelled down the Rocky Mountains, bypassing Denver to Boulder, lovely city butno were for us to camp out, one park with 23 sites in the hills but fully booked. Boulder is a University City of 100,000 people, one third of these students. Irony of it all, you can be fined $1000 for walking in a Public place smoking a cigerette, BUT only $250 for smoking a joint. Anyway on to Greeley where our GPS let us down and we got totally lost (has done it a few times but not as bad as today), anyway questions, resetting the GPS and finally we found our RV Park, not easy doing u turns when you are approx 45ft long. Nice camp except somebody built it close to ... read more

In another 15 hours or so I'll be airborne and heading for Boston and then Buffalo and finally St Catherine's... Craziness. So goodbye to the Rockies and the Wild West for a couple of months. It has been a crazy last few weeks and I can't wait to see everyone out Canada-way! I haven't been all that interesting over the last little while, concentrating on homework and moving and packing and all that, but I did manage to get in a visit to Greeley (where Mom and Dad live, for those of you who don't know). So here's a pic of our last dessert which includes Canadian wine from my last visit to Canada in December, camembert and apricot jam as well as havarti and dill cheese. Yummy :) ... read more

Hello, I made this blog to keep everyone updated during my trip to Belize this summer. In case I haven't told you, I got a job on a research farm. They do all kinds of experimental agriculture and agroforestry. I'll post some more details on that in the coming weeks. I'll be there for at least a month - it's up to me to extend my stay, so if I'm having a great time I have the option to stay longer. Here's my schedule (this is happening in May, by the way): - Arrive in Belize City at 14:50 on the 14th - Take an express bus to Punta Gorda at 05:30 on the 15th (5-7 hour bus trip) - Take a bus to San Pedro Columbia at 12:00 on the 16th (2 hour trip? Not ... read more
