Today we rode from Gunnison along 50 to Montrose, stopped at the Harley Dealer and then went on to Grand Junction. (About 1600 miles or so.) We're working our way north to Yellowstone. This is not the best route from Gunnison, I think. Oh Well. More beauty ahead. No pics today except one.
Gunnison to Montrose is OK. More mountains and valleys. One more pass to go over; Cerro Summit (7,958'). rain, as usual, there. but nowhere else.
Montrose to Grand Junction is not such a great ride. There is some nice country, to be sure, but a lot more industrial and residential stuff. You ain't missin' nothing.
We took a walk down Main Street in Grand Junction. It was pretty empty. a few empty store fronts, and many shops were closed already (6:00 PM). We only saw a dozen or so pedestrians, and few cars. I'm not sure if it's the day of the week, the season, or the economy. I must say they have gone to a lot of trouble to present a nice downtown and it looks nice. Our hotel, on the other hand, is not in such a charming part of town.
Get out your maps. Tomorrow we go up 139 (See it there?) then 64 to 40, to191 to Rock Springs, WY. I have no idea what to expect.
Thursday night in Jackson, Friday-Monday in The Park.
Nighty night.
