Hi everyone!! So I'm a few months late getting an update out to you...and it's not too much of an update. Just wanted to share some photos of the area and let you know how we're doing.
So, apparently we've hit the worst winter in Vail in over 40 years. We've had temperatures averaging in the 40's and very very very little snow (mind you, it seems like a lot of snow to us, but last year they got 600+ inches - yes, that's 50 feet of snow!!!!). This year is dry by comparison, and the quality of the snow isn't the greatest. Hence, the valley is something of a ghost town compared to how it normally is. A little disappointing for our first winter here, but hey, what can you do?? At least we're getting plenty of sunshine!!
We're pretty well settled in by now. My dad came out for a visit for a few weeks, which was nice. We got over to Denver and walked around downtown - gorgeous city!! It's crazy to drive east out of the mountains and into Denver - all of a sudden the horizon is there and it's flat all the way
to the Atlantic. I want to head out across the plains and come back towards Denver so I can see the Rockies rise from nowhere - haven't had that experience yet so I'm looking forward to it!
Last week was our 4 year anniversary (already!). We drove an hour west to Glenwood Springs and ventured into the world's largest hot spring pool. We hoped for snow but instead got RAIN because it was so warm!! Imagine that?? I've also been across Vail Pass a few times to Lake Dillon, an area that reminds me very very much of Queenstown, New Zealand, where we lived in 2010. It's simply spectacular.
Soooooo...that's about all I have to report, I'm afraid. We've only been snowboarding a handful of times, there's just not enough snow to make it worth the effort. We're hoping for a nice snowy spring!! In the meantime, enjoy our photos from Beaver Creek, Lake Dillon, Denver, and Glenwood Springs. Love and miss you all, please remember you are all welcome to come visit anytime!! We'd love to have some company. Until next time!!!
