Old 5 cents sign on building
Many old signs remain on buildings in downtown area
Victor Colorado is 48 miles from Colorado Springs and about a hour's drive. The scenery along the way is outstanding and there are many places to stop for a snack or coffee. Victor is a small basically tourist town now with a population of around 450 according to the census. This used to be the heart of the gold country however the old mines whcih one saw in the movies have long been closed and given way to modern gold mining. One such mine is on the highway in the Cripple Creek area. Many old mine shafts dot the country side in and around Victor and there are some paths where one can walk safely to viewing areas. The town itself has many old historical buildings with many having going business operations mainly for the tourist.
Victor was founded in 1891 and quickly grew along with the Cripple Creek area and many of the old buildings still remain in downtown Victor. A drive to Victor will be rewared with an opportunity to view history that in some instances remain almost undisturbed.The old Victor downtown is considered an historical district with some buildings on the National Register.In addiiton there
